Aging Better: Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

September is Gynecologic & Ovarian Cancer Awareness month, and on this week’s episode of Aging Better, a local doctor who specializes in treating these diseases joined the conversation.

According to the American Cancer Society, more than 21,000 women will receive a new diagnosis of ovarian cancer in2 026. More than 12,000 will die from the disease.

Dr. Susan Modesitt, professor and chair in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Emory University School of Medicine, has done extensive research focusing on hereditary cancers, obesity-related cancers and clinical trials in gynecologic oncology.

What to know about GLP-1 | Aging Better

In this week’s episode of Aging Better, host Cyreia Sandlin talks all things GLP-1 with board-certified internist Dr. Paul Bradley.

Dr. Bradley is a practicing board-certified internist and co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of Scripta Insights. He also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Mercer Medical College and holds the title of principal investigator at Meridian Clinical Research in Savannah. Dr. Bradley has led more than 100 pharmaceutical trials, including the Pfizer, Moderna and Novavax COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials.

Dr. Bradley explains how the GLP-1 medications themselves are not new, and he first started prescribing them for diabetics 15 to 20 years from now. These medications have skyrocketed in popularity, as they are now FDA approved for weight loss. A recent Gallup poll estimates 15% of Americans have used a GLP-1 for weight loss.
