One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. That’s 13% of women.
But there is also encouraging news: death rates from breast cancer have dropped by about 40% from the late 1990s through the early 2020s, thanks in large part to earlier detection through screening and awareness.
That was the focus of this week’s episode of the Aging Better podcast, in a conversation with Dr. Jane Meisel, a board-certified medical oncologist with a special interest in women’s health and cancers that affect women, particularly breast cancer. Meisel is a practicing physician at the Winship Cancer Institute and professor at Emory University School of Medicine. She received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School.
