Go, Speed Racer! Majority of Utahns say speeding is okay

Okay folks, it's time for an honest chat… a heart-to-heart, if you will. Who here speeds? You don't have to tell us, but don't lie to yourselves -- do you speed? If you do, you're among friends. Yes, we know it's bad. But according to some new research, a majority of Utahns think speeding is okay. The Inside Sources hosts share their own thoughts on speeding, plus Holly's fun facts and Greg's closing arguments.

Neutrogena faces flak over claims of ending contract with Hayden Penettiere over postpartum depression

Neutrogena -- the skincare and beauty company -- is facing a lot of flak right now related to the recent death of actress Hayden Panettiere. The complaints aren't exactly related to her death, but the news of her passing has re-ignited a discussion about postpartum depression. Given our conversation yesterday on postpartum mental health care, it felt fitting to talk about this today. Greg and Holly break down the situation and give their takes on why they think Neutrogena might be in the wrong.

Prosecution submits another filing asking judge to move ahead with Tyler Robinson's murder trial

We're still waiting for an official notice as to whether or not Tyler Robinson will go to trial. The man accused of shooting and killing Charlie Kirk at UVU is waiting for the judge to make his decision, which is expected to happen after a final hearing on September 1st. In the meantime, the prosecution continues to push for the judge to send the case to trial with 'aggravating' elements attached to the charges. The defense says those 'aggravating' things are not applicable here. And now, the prosecution has submitted another filing defending their 'aggravated' claims. What a mess!

Poll: Majority of Utahns disapprove of Pres. Trump's order shrinking size of monuments, still value local control over public lands

The fallout from President Trump's recent executive order slashing the size of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante National Monuments continues. Now, we're getting a better idea of how Utahns feel about the move. But what's really interesting is this kind of juxtaposition we saw in the polling results. According to polling from the Deseret News and Hinckley Institute of Politics, a majority of Utahns oppose shrinking the monuments. But at the same time, a wide majority of Utahns support putting public lands in the hands of local governments. Greg and Holly break it all down.

Back-to-School: DEA issues fentanyl warning for parents

A new school year generally comes with a slew of warnings for parents -- things you need to be aware of as your kids leave the house. One warning out for this new year deals with fentanyl. Officials with the Drug Enforcement Administration say if your kid has access to a cell phone, they have access to a drug dealer. Yikes! In this segment, Greg and Holly learn about the warning signs of possible drug activity with kids, along with the ways parents can best help their kids keep away from harmful substances like drugs and alcohol.

Back-to-School: The final year for the Alpine School District

It's a bit of an historic day in Utah County today, as the Alpine School District begins its final year of classes. By this time next year, the district will have been split into three districts, marking a significant change in K-12 education in northern Utah County. Greg and Holly get updates on the start of the new school year and how students and teachers are tackling the first day of school with Katie Bowman, an elementary school supervisor with the district. Then, they're joined by Alpine School District Superintendent Rob Smith, who shares insights on what the school district is doing this year to prepare for the split. He also explains what will and will not change for students and families come the 2027-2028 school year.

Data center discussions come to Utah's Capitol Hill

State lawmakers might have their hands full when it comes to the data center debate. Outrage continues from several communities across Utah, including a heated meeting last night in Spanish Fork. During the legislative interim sessions underway right now on Utah's Capitol Hill, the state legislature is taking a closer look at the impacts and effects of data centers in our state -- what they could do for everyday Utahns, how they'd impact the environment, and how they may affect the Great Salt Lake.

Early morning fire sparks at mouth of Weber Canyon

It was quite the sight to see early this morning -- bright orange flames burning amid the darkness of the mountainside near the mouth of Weber Canyon. Dubbed the Dugway Fire, it caused a lot of concern this morning. Parts of U.S. 89 were closed and some structures were threatened, but no evacuations were put into place. KSL NewsRadio's Adam Small ran to the scene as soon as the fire started and has been tracking developments; he joins Inside Sources with an update.

Feed the can, man: Local hiker cleans trails one bag at a time

Leave no trace! When you hit the trails or take to some of Utah's pristine outdoors, do you clean up after yourself? Be honest. Do you ALWAYS pick up your trash? Unfortunately, we know not everyone does. And how do we know? A local hiker recently lugged load after load of garbage off Mount Timpanogos. So much for keeping our environment clean, eh? Greg and Holly finish the show with their own plea for Utahns to keep our outdoors clean.

Are we miscounting the true number of deaths caused by domestic violence?

When it comes to domestic violence, are we counting deaths correctly? Around the country, families are pushing states for more scrutiny when it comes to deaths caused by domestic violence. A lot of times, families say their loved ones' deaths have been ruled as suicides or accidents, and that officials have ignored the role domestic violence may have played in those unfortunate deaths. Greg and Holly have a chat about the growing trends of DV in our communities.

How programs are working together to promote women in leadership roles in Utah

Study after study shows that when women are more involved in making decisions, communities prosper. Whether it's in government or business, or anything else -- the data's there. So how can we better strengthen and promote women here in Utah? The Women's Leadership Institute of Utah recently changed its name to Sego Leadership, and this is the exact kind of thing they hope to address. Jen Hunsaker, Director of Marketing and Communications for Sego Leadership joins the conversation.

States batten down the hatches to protect mail-in voting from Trump administration

Okay for me, but not for thee? That's the vibe Holly is getting from the Trump administration… as they continue to push against vote-by-mail while still allowing the President to vote by mail. The White House is defending the move, saying the SAVE America Act has exceptions in place for Americans to vote by mail due to illness, disability, military, or travel. This has been a personal issue for the President for some time now, and recent Supreme Court decisions don't see to have the President holding back. The continued push has led many states to double down as they defend the way they handle elections.

Gone with the wind: Officials confirm tornado touchdown in Tooele County; firenado reported in Rocky Canyon fire

Remember that tornado warning in Tooele County last week? Turns out the storm that generated that warning did in fact spur a tornado too! It wasn't anything huge -- only an EF1. That's pretty mild, but it could certainly still pack a punch. And this twister did cause some property damage in Skull Valley. At the same time, a firenado was reported in the nearby Rocky Canyon fire. Inside Sources discusses some of the wild weather we've been seeing here in Utah.

Republican Parties around the country add anti-IVF language to party platforms

There's a growing trend of state Republican Parties adding anti-IVF language to their party platforms. For being the supposed party of families, Holly's confused as to the end goal of these moves. Murder trial for Lindsay Clancy highlights gaps in mental health care for new mothers

When we talk about awful crimes like murder, mental health almost always comes into the conversation. That's the situation going on right now in Massachusetts, where Lindsay Clancy is accused of killing her three children. Her trial is ongoing this week, and the case has really honed in on Clancy's postpartum mental health and this idea of "postpartum psychosis." Greg and Holly share their thoughts on the case, then broaden out the conversation to discuss physical and mental health care for new mothers. They're joined in this discussion by Sarah Hanchett, LCSW, Chief Clinical Officer at Collaborative Care from EvolvedMD.

Back-to-School: Addressing new school year jitters

More school districts are heading back to the classroom today, including Salt Lake City and Nebo school districts. A few other districts are partially going back today, including some students in the Alpine School District, where Holly lives. Her daughter's been feeling a lot of anxiety starting at a new junior high school today, and that has Holly feeling more nervous than ever. Deseret News reporter Jason Swensen spoke with a child therapist to get some tips on how parents and kids can deal with back-to-school jitters; he joins Inside Sources to explain.

Anti-incumbent sentiment growing in Utah

Could the anti-incumbent wave sweeping much of the nation finally have reached the shores of Utah? New data from the Deseret News and the Hinckley Institute of Politics found that some of Utah's top political leaders -- including Governor Cox, Senator Mike Lee, and Senator John Curtis -- have all seen some pretty significant approval drops. For more insights on the polling and what it says about our current views of our elected officials, political reporter at the Deseret News Brigham Tomco joins the show.

The day after: What we've learned following the deadly shooting outside a funeral in Kearns

So many outstanding questions remain this morning… following that deadly shooting outside a funeral service in Kearns. But Holly's biggest question: is no place sacred anymore? While the shooting wasn't inside a church -- it was right outside -- do we not hold things like funeral services as sacred anymore? Police haven't said a whole lot, other than the number of victims involved. They also released some information this morning on a 45-year-old man they have taken into custody on suspicion of being involved. Greg and Holly turn to Greg Rogers, retired FBI agent and criminal justice instructor at Utah Valley University to get his take on this kind of violence and what we can do to help bring down the temperature.
