Lone Survivor (Part One)

(Part 1 of 2) The thought of marriage can be overwhelming…Even if you’re sure you’ve met the man or woman of your dreams, it’s a commitment that should never be taken lightly. You’ve got to be careful when choosing a forever partner…because a lot of people aren’t exactly who they say they are. 27-year-old Nicholas Firkus seemed like an innocent church goer - right alongside his wife Heidi. But after a black man wearing a hooded sweatshirt broke into their St. Paul, MN home, authorities eventually began looking at the husband as a suspect, after a home invasion turned deadly.

#Karen

18-year-old Zachary Latham of Vineland, NJ was every neighbor's worst nightmare. His favorite pastimes included racing fast cars down Thornhill Road, revving his engine, and terrorizing one family in particular - The Durhams. After recording their countless confrontations, Zachary Latham soon began uploading the videos to TikTok. Using the hashtag #Karen, his content soon went viral and Zachary Latham started gaining more followers. But when the lines become blurred between online personas and real life altercations, someone is bound to get hurt eventually…or even worse. In a case that would soon become controversial headline news across the nation, the very same devices used to upload video content to social media would inevitably capture a neighborhood dispute gone terribly wrong.

Sling Blade

In May of 2019 a Pensacola, FL man’s badly decomposed body was discovered bound with duct tape and tightly wrapped in a tarp at the end of a desolate road next to an old mining sediment pond. The only potential clue left behind was a piece of scrap sheetrock, a bathroom tile, and a small length of orange nylon rope. All signs would inevitably point back to the man’s next-door neighbor. But would this quiet, good ‘ole Southern boy actually talk? And might there be more victims at the end of his twisted tale of lies?

Problem Child

On August 8, 2007, EMS arrived at a residential property in Esto, FL to render life saving aid to an unresponsive 7-year-old girl who had been found floating face down in a backyard pool. The child’s mother, Amanda Lewis, showed every sign of a parent in distress as her daughter was airlifted to the hospital. 7-year-old Adrianna Hutto tragically died and almost became another statistic in a long list of annual accidental drownings…that is, until a key witness came forward saying her death was no accident at all…

House of Secrets (Part Two)

(Part 2 of 2) In March of 2010, Farmers Insurance Agent and independent branch owner/operator Randy Stone was found shot to death in his Independence, MO office suite by his wife Teresa. The former U.S. Marine and Gulf War Veteran was prepared for anything by his very nature - so his untimely death caught close friends and family off guard. The only clue homicide detectives had to go off of was a torn up note in an office trash can near Randy’s body. A letter from his wife’s supposed secret admirer. The author of which, likely pulled the trigger.

Pecan Point

We’ve all met a liar or two in our day. Someone who just can’t seem to tell the truth. 27-year-old Taylor Rene Parker of New Boston, Texas was one of those people. One person who believed what Taylor was saying, however, was her boyfriend Wade Griffin. After Taylor became pregnant with his child, Wade was looking forward to becoming a father…but as Taylor’s due date came and went, Taylor was running out of options. She was going to do whatever it took to become a mother even if it killed her, or even worse…someone else.

I Was Almost a School Shooter

In 1996, 17-year-old Aaron Stark of Denver, CO had made up his mind. He was going to become a school shooter. Before the days of Columbine, there weren’t metal detectors at every entrance or armed community services officers standing guard in American schools. In fact, it was relatively easy for a kid to bring a gun to school. Aaron had it all planned out. He knew exactly how he was going to get the weapon and in his mind, there was no turning back. But ultimately that is exactly what he did. We had a chance to speak with Aaron…and not from his prison cell, but instead on a Zoom call from the comfort of his own home.

Written by Michael Dunphy Jr., Executive Produced by Michael Ojibway. Special thanks to Aaron Stark for participating in an exclusive interview and for sharing his perspective.

Into the Woods

2020 was shaping up to be a promising year for 25-year-old Jonathan Amerault of Keene, New Hampshire. He was working his way up the ranks in a career he loved, as a Biomedical Engineer. He had just purchased his first home and was in the process of remodeling it himself. The only thing missing from John’s life was a partner to share it with. Eventually, he did find a potential partner. A woman he saw a potential future with. But when he and a fellow co-worker turned up missing on the same cold September night, his family could never have prepared themselves for the grisly discovery in a desolate stretch of Northern New Hampshire forest. The Dance

Matthew Terry was an all American guy from Michigan. He was a good looking man in his late 40’s, well liked, charming, and even involved in his community. There’s no wonder why Michelle Rogers fell for him when they first met on a dating app. back in 2017…but do you ever really know someone until you live with them? After taking the leap and moving in together, Matt’s true colors began to show…and they weren’t nearly as bright and vibrant as he’d tried to portray. Soon, a dark past would be swept from underneath the rug…but not before Michelle found herself with a knife to her throat on the floor of her own kitchen. 2nd Chances

Some of the darkest corners of America are places most of us are fortunate enough to stay away from. But that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Far too many individuals are born into colliding worlds of addiction, sex trafficking, and violence. A lot of those people will never have a chance at a better life. Many won’t even make it out alive. Others however… do get that rare opportunity to try again. Britnee Blair, who now identifies as Samantha Haynes, is one of those lucky few…but the story of how she made it out and got to the other side is an ugly one. She spares no details of the horrific things she’s seen and done herself during this one of a kind, eye-opening interview.

Written by Michael Dunphy Jr., Executive Produced by Michael Ojibway. Special Thanks to Samantha Haynes.

Dishonor Among Thieves

Macon, Georgia is a beautiful city that often gets overlooked. It’s a quiet place with a community of friendly and hardworking people. Not too much happens here…but between 2011 & 2012, two of the most heinous crimes this country has ever seen would take place in the area. The first being the highly publicized murder of law student Lauren Giddings, who was killed by her obsessed stalker, Stephen McDaniel. That crime shook the nation…but what happened less than one year later to 58 year-old Gail Spencer was equally, if not more horrific…

Choices

We’re faced with choices every day. Most are trivial and underwhelming to the point we don’t realize they’re even choices at all. Getting gas, whether or not to order take out, or the ever infamous quandary: “should I go to the gym?” There does, however, come those times when we’re forced to make more profound decisions…the type that could very well alter the trajectory of our future. We sat down for an interview with artist, public speaker, educator, and activist Blackliq. While he has achieved much in the entertainment space, his music was not the main topic of discussion. Instead, he told us exclusively and for the 1st time publicly, about the day a homicide detective showed up at his work back in 2004, informing him that his father was being charged with 1st degree murder.

Written by Michael Dunphy Jr., Executive Produced by Michael Ojibway. Special thanks to Blackliq.

The 12th Failure

Lyndon McLeod was your typical controversial online troll. He was loud, provocative, and identified as a quote, “Shiva-the-destroyer archetype who likes to watch shit burn.” He also happened to be an author. His 4,485 page self-published 3-part work entitled “Sanction” began to gain some traction online with the help of his dark and outlandish marketing tactics… but one supporter of the writer’s Patreon eventually realized the book wasn't a fictional tale. When warnings fell on deaf ears… when no one listened to threats that inevitably turned out to be true - the city of Denver, CO would be met with a brand of devastation well beyond anyone’s worst nightmares.

Nikki With An “i”

Nikki Kuhnhausen was born “Nicholas.” From a very young age her mother Lisa knew her son wasn’t like the other boys at school. In 6th grade Nikki had the courage to come out, identifying as female. She embraced the person she truly felt she was, unapologetically. But when Nikki suddenly went missing from the Vancouver, WA area one day…it would be some time before anyone learned what had actually happened to the at-risk 17 year old…

The Dirty Truth

Most of us are at least peripherally familiar with the story of John Meehan, a.k.a the infamous “Dirty John,”  the con-artist who terrorized women across the United States. But when the news broke of what happened to John during his final moments, the infamy surrounding his abusive escapades strangely led to several international TV deals, docuseries, and was even the basis for some of the most successful investigative true-crime podcasts ever created. Fortunes were made as a result of his long history of domestic violence and abuse, but the victims of the traumatic events were of the few who never saw a substantial pay day. In this episode we interview Terra Newell - the woman who finally put an end to the despicable “Dirty John.” She provides an eye opening look inside the strangest kind of limelight, discusses ethics and monetization in true crime, and explains what life’s really like after being involved in a homicide  that captivated the world.

Written by Michael Dunphy Jr., Executive Produced by Michael Ojibway.

Special Thanks to Terra Newell.

Suspect Your Elders

“Respect your elders.” It’s something we’ve all heard since we were young. Albert Flick, a 76-year-old US Army veteran from Westbrook, Maine fit the precise mold of the type of individual we’re expected to revere. You’d never know based on appearance alone that this man had an extremely dark & violent past. When a judge gave Mr. Flick another chance at life after years in and out of prison for violent crimes, he started over in a new town where no one knew of his past…but allowing this elderly man to walk free proved to be one of the most costly & deadly mistakes the state of Maine could have ever made.

The Secret Diary

“Why didn’t she just leave?” This is a question usually proposed by the uninformed. Individuals unaware of just how difficult and dangerous it is for victims of domestic violence to get out of their toxic relationship. It’s never that simple and everyone’s situation is different. A young school teacher by the name of Amber Guichelaar was one of these women. She wanted to get out and almost did. A tragedy that was first reported as an accident, would turn out to be much more than that. When detectives found letters Amber had left behind, they would finally reveal the truth of what really happened.

Finding Jordan

In 2017, just days after Thanksgiving, a 25-year-old woman from Keystone Heights, FL mysteriously disappeared. Authorities wasted no time in launching their search efforts, as this wasn’t the average missing person case. Jordan Cooper was severely intellectually challenged and had never been left alone for more than a few hours. She was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt at her house on Payne Road. As law enforcement questioned her family with a suspiciously checkered past, they failed to look toward one individual who had been hiding in plain sight the entire time…

63-year-old Chef Daniel Brophy was the Oregon Culinary Institute's most eccentric instructor for many years. His hands-on method of foraging wild herbs & incorporating them in his dishes was only one example of what made him so special, in and out of the kitchen. All seemed well in Daniel’s personal life as well, having been married to his wife Nancy for over 20 years. In 2018, Daniel left his home early in the morning to teach his normal Saturday course. Little did he know, heading into work that day meant walking directly into a trap…when he was confronted with a 9mm Glock 17, held by the last person anyone would expect.

Bargaining Chip

On the afternoon of April 27th, 2016, 33-year-old Tricia Todd of Hobe Sound, FL never arrived to pick her young daughter up from her babysitter. Family was notified, who subsequently went to pick up the child. Tricia’s family believed she may have been held up at work or possibly forgotten, but hours continued passing by with no word. The following day, during a visit to Tricia’s home, her family found her car parked across the street in a neighbor’s driveway and inside of her home sat full bags of groceries. The days turned into weeks leaving… many to wonder, where was Tricia Todd?

Safe and Secure

On October 17, 2015, 27-year-old Sasha Samsudean went missing after coming home late from a night out at the bars in Orlando, FL. She was last seen stumbling through her apartment building’s hallway just after 2 A.M…and one of the last people seen helping her on surveillance camera just so happened to be the helpful security guard…

Suburban Satanist

Clemmons, N.C. is a hardworking, blue collar village that rests in the heart of the bible belt. Religion is very much embedded and weaved throughout the fabric of this community. And when a young man named John Alexander Lawson moved to town with his mother Cynthia, no one thought much of it… until he grew up. In this episode, we explore the home of a self-proclaimed devil that moved next door & walk you through the hellhole that was 2749 Knob Hill Drive…but it wasn’t until little Johnny changed his name to Pazuzu Algarad (after his favorite character in The Exorcist), that folks in the neighborhood would start to go missing…
