Author Marybeth Rombach Nelson was in an abusive marriage. Still, it wasn’t until she had a near-death experience that she was empowered to start the process of leaving her husband for the sake of her kids and her own “Personal Power.” MaryBeth joins this episode of Relentlessly Resilient to share her journey overcoming domestic abuse, emphasizing the importance of making a plan, seeking support, and utilizing resources like personal protection orders, community organizations, as well as trusted family and friends. Now, she helps empower “wholeness and oneness” in others as host of “The Healing Soul Podcast,” a content creator, speaker, and Reiki Master. She reminds people suffering from any kind of abuse that “You always have hope and are never alone. That there is strength to be found in the resources available.”
For more information on domestic abuse, call the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence hotline at 1-800-799-7233 and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center hotline at 1-877-739-3895. Relentlessly Resilient host Jennie Taylor launched The Major Brent Taylor Foundation on what would have been her husband's 40th birthday. Nearly five years later, the organization has expanded to not only include their original principles of training, honoring, and engaging, but to provide Gold Star families with travel opportunities to attend the annual rededication of the Global War on Terrorism Memorial, an interactive and massive 9/11 Project traveling installation, Flag Missions, and much much more.
On this Cohost Conversation episode, Jennie and Michelle discuss the power and purpose of the foundation and invite others to get involved in patriotism wherever they are, including if they can donate to the foundation or attend the Leadership Legacy Gala on Friday, November 8, 2024, in Ogden Utah. They also, and most importantly, implore listners to become civically involved and patriotic no matter your political views, as that is the freedom Major Taylor, and others like him, have fought and died for.

Entrepreneur Mary Crafts returns to Relentlessly Resilient to share lessons from her book “UNBOUNDED—From Sorrow to Summit.” Around the age of 50, she discovered that even though her life looked successful with family, friends, and amazing business endeavors, she lived it out of fear, not love. So, she CHOSE to start “Crafting a meaningful life,” chose to live a LOVE-based life, got healthy, got divorced, and literally climbed through adversity when she summited Kilimanjaro at age 65. Her book is an easy but impactful read, filled with outstanding advice on taking control of your life and living to your true self. As Michelle says in this episode, “A lot of people have the capacity to take this book and use it as a manual for your life. It’s that simple.”

Relationship betrayal can be just as traumatizing as a physical accident or any other traumatic event. For Jeni Brockbank, the sexual betrayal from her husband was heartbreaking and life-shaking. As an active member of her Christian faith, she chose to turn to God and the scriptures in her time of need, as well as therapy, couples counseling, trauma model recovery practices, and connecting with a community of individuals in similar situations. She has compiled her story and advice in her book “Healing In Christ's Light: From Patterns Of Sexual Betrayal.” She reminds listeners of the need for safety, boundaries, self and spiritual reflection, and the power of finding your voice.

Jamie Lee Silver loved being a mother to her boys, and when her son Ben was diagnosed with schizophrenia, she did all she could to help him cope with the situation. Sadly, Ben completed suicide in 2015, and their relationship turned into a non-physical one. Throughout this challenging journey, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) tapping helped her face her grief and emotional pain. In 2019, she became certified in EFT and is now helping and consulting others with her ‘Silver Lining System’ for healing.
Along this path, her son Ben has never been far from her heart, mind, and practice. Using automatic writing, she wrote “Our Forever Ben: Letters from a Loving Mom to Her Son in Spirit, And His Poetic Replies.” She also created “Ben’s Memorial Mile & Community Festival” to honor his love of running, where they have raised money for schizophrenic brain research with the National Alliance of Mental Illness. Jamie joins this episode of Relentlessly Resilient to share her story and encourage others to seek out and use the right emotional and spiritual tools for them.

In a world where marketers and politicians rush to extremes to sway you to their point of view, there is actually a lot of positivity to see out there! This is the message the host of The Optimistic American podcast, Paul Johnson, shares today with our Relentlessly Resilient hosts. As a successful businessman, author, and even former Phoenix mayor, he has experienced for himself the power of “critical positivity.” Calling from lessons in science, history, and literary legend Viktor Frankl; Paul illustrates how we can ignore the ‘fear-mongering” rhetoric of victim mindsets, powerlessness, and ‘othering’ in order to work together as a society. On his podcast, he invites others to “join the movement that is changing the narrative and reclaiming a sense of hope and agency, through powerful interviews and inspiring stories.” He shares his story and lessons on empowering the individual with positivity, not fear.

Tanner Poulson lived his life serving others as he worked with individuals with intellectual disabilities, and one of his favorite ways to serve and connect was with LEGO bricks. But when he unexpectedly passed away at the young age of 31 due to a heart condition, his family continued his legacy by creating the “I Love Us Project," a nonprofit organization. His mother, Karen Poulson, joins this episode of Relentlessly Resilient to talk about her son, his LEGO art, and how she is honoring his memory by gifting LEGO to those who most need that playful connecting and therapeutic toy.
Please visit the ILoveUsProject.com to donate to the project or purchase a LEGO keepsake in honor of Tanner’s life and legacy, which both our host Michelle Sharf and producer Kellieann Halvorsen did during this recording.
