Lainey Wilson says 'I do' to Devlin Hodges in fairytale ceremony | Music City Minute
You would think the biggest news in country music would be that of the 61st annual ACM Awards in Las Vegas. However, Lainey Wilson and Devlin "Duck” Hodges appeared from left field and became the front page headline. As it turns out, on March 10, the cowboy and the hippie became man and wife. Surrounded by family and friends, including Ella Langley, Ian and Caroline Munsick, Jelly Roll, Luke and Caroline Bryan, Miranda Lambert and Wynonna Judd, the loved-up couple exchanged vows at Ruskin Cave in Dickson, Tennessee. The "Watermelon Moonshine" singer wore an Oscar de la Renta dress adorned with cherry blossoms, bugle beads and crystals along with platform heels (that she traded in for a pair of bedazzled boots), while the former NFL star sported a handsome green suit, bolo tie, hat and boots. At the end of the night, the "Heart Like a Truck" singer and her husband gleefully waved goodbye to their guests while driving away in a white pickup truck. Congratulations to the happy couple!

'American Idol' finale performance fans wish they could unsee and unhear | Music City Minute
The latest season of "American Idol" has ended, and there were plenty of memorable moments from the season finale. However, one segment from the show left many viewers confused and somewhat divided. In a full metal moment, Carrie Underwood joined legendary rock band Mötley Crüe for a medley of "Home Sweet Home" and "Kickstart My Heart." While a number of viewers love the pulse-pounding collaboration, including fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, others commented they wish they could erase the performance from their memory. Thankfully, that latter group wasn’t responding to Carrie Underwood’s delivery specifically, rather it was that of Mötley Crüe’s actual lead singer Vince Neil’s half-hearted performance, which left many live viewers underwhelmed and suffering serious secondhand embarrassment. At the end of the day, though, it really was a win-win for both acts. Carrie Underwood lived out her rockstar dream, while Mötley Crüe gained exposure to a younger, hipper crowd and hopefully a few new fans.

Three country music up-and-comers who are riding high on the ACM Award hog | Music City Minute
Goodness gracious, this year is flying by! It is wild to think that the ACM Awards are right around the corner, and while we are still about a week away, several early wins were recently revealed. First up is Avery Anna, who was surprised on stage by family and bestie Sam Barber with the ACM New Female Artist of the Year award. Next, Tucker Wetmore was mid-concert in London when Thomas Rhett crashed his set and announced he was the New Male Artist of the Year. Wetmore’s emotional response was captured by fans, where he admits he was at a “loss for words.” Finally, Stephen Wilson Jr. is the latest recipient of a cowboy hat-shaped trophy when his official music video for Cuckoo (which codirected by the way) won Best Visual Media of the Year. For the full list of winners, be sure to check out the 61st annual Academy of Country Music Awards hosted by Shania Twain, which will stream live on Prime Video from Las Vegas, Sunday, May 17.

Jason Aldean admits he likes this one person more than bestie Luke Bryan | Music City Minute
In the entertainment business, it can be difficult to make true friends. Yet, from time to time, twin flames are drawn to each other, igniting a lifelong bond. With that in mind, two of the most notorious besties in country music are Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan. During a recent interview where they discussed their latest duet, "Songs About Us," as well as their upcoming coheadline tour, each revealed secrets about the other that only decadeslong friends would know. For example, apparently Jason Aldean’s “baseball bat” golf grip drives Luke nuts. However, thankfully, the son of a peanut farmer has been giving Jason grip tips. It would also seem the "Country Girl" singer cannot keep up with his friend who “Only shoots tequila” instead of drink margaritas, which Bryan claims, “Is a problem.” That said, in hilarious contrast, Aldean only had glowing comments about his friend saying Luke has no filter (which he is envious of) and his mom, Miss LeClaire, is the most awesome mom in the world. In fact, Jason admits he likes Luke’s mom more than him, to which Bryan shot back, “My mother cusses at Jason from time to time. They used to share cigarettes, but they don’t do that anymore cause Jason’s a quitter.” Is it just me, or do these boys sound more like brothers than friends?

In Music City, every night is a boot-scootin' Saturday night! | Music City Minute
Typically, Wednesday nights are not very exciting. However, in Nashville, the middle of the week looks and sounds a lot different from most cities. For example, last hump day, five of the biggest names and country music casually treated fans to intimate shows across Music City. First up was Kacey Musgraves, who hosted an album release party for "Middle of Nowhere" at the Nashville Palace. The Grammy winner entertained her guests with first ever performances of "Hell On Me" and "Rhinestone." Next, Keith Urban played The Mill at Cannery Hall, where he gave fans a taste of his upcoming yacht rock album called "Flow State." About a mile down the road, Blake Shelton put on a pulse-pounding show at Ole Red’s, delivering stadium energy performances of "God’s Country," "Texas" and "Austin." Finally, Thomas Rhett and Jordan Davis lit up the stage at Old Dominion’s bar, Odie’s in Midtown. Fans who were lucky enough to get into the free show were treated to acoustic versions of "Die a Happy Man," "T-Shirt," "Look What God Gave Her" and "Ain’t a Bad Life." Heck, who knew midweek could sound so good?

Country music loses icon and outlaw | Music City Minute
When we hear the words Outlaw Country, the biggest characters that immediately come to mind are Johnny Cash, Waylon, Willie, Kris and Merle. However, there are a lot more artists that make up the subgenre that we may have forgotten about. Folks like Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Jessi Coulter, Tanya Tucker, Hank Junior and Johnny Paycheck. What is interesting about that list is it shows that Outlaw Country wasn’t only made up of former criminals. In fact, the movement was way more than someone’s jacket. It was actually a blend of sounds and ideas contradictory and in-protest against the conservative, commercial Nashville Sound leading into the 60s and 70s. With that in mind, sadly country music says "goodbye" to one of the most iconic (and polarizing) individuals in Outlaw Country, David Allan Coe. Known for such definitive songs as "You Never Even Called Me by My Name," "The Ride" and "Penitentiary Blues," the singer-songwriter's family confirmed his health had been declining, and he passed away after a brief stay in the ICU. David Allan Coe was 86 years old.

Willie Nelson: the man, myth, outlaw and legend – at 93, he is still truckin' on | Music City Minute
If you were to crack open the dictionary and look up the word legend, you would see a full-page picture of Willie Nelson right next to the definition. This week, we celebrate Ole Poncho, who turned 93 on April 29, and talk about a man who has seen and done at all! Willie’s music career began following a stint in the Air Force and finding work as a disc jockey. At the same time, he was already honing his craft writing hit songs like "Crazy" and "Hello Walls" before turning his back on Nashville and returning home to Texas. He would eventually go onto record albums like "Shotgun Willie" and "Redheaded Stranger," while simultaneously pioneering the Outlaw Country movement with friends Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson. Over the last seven decades, Nelson has recorded 104 studio albums, won dozens of Grammys, ACM and CMA awards and earned inductions into the Country Music Hall of Fame and Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, cementing his iconic image of equal parts, hippie, cowboy and rock star.

Avery Anna receives surprise of a lifetime from Sam Barber | Music City Minute
Imagine you are performing in front of a packed house like you have done hundreds of times before. Yet, there is something different about this concert, and it’s about to get very emotional like it did for an up-and-coming artist at the Lonestar Smokeout Festival in Texas. Avery Anna has officially joined the ranks of Megan Moroney, Ella Langley and Miss Lainey Wilson as this year’s ACM New Female Artist. “I’m just so grateful for this for people like you that show up for artists like me, and so thank you guys so much, this is such an honor!” said the Arizona native. Talk about a roller coaster of emotions. Avery Anna was joined on stage by Sam Barber, her family and her management as they all presented the 22-year-old with her first ACM trophy. The Indigo singer received heaps of praise online from fellow female artists, including Megan Moroney, McKenzie Porter, Carly Pearce and Emily Ann Roberts as well as friends and fans. Congratulations, Miss Avery Anna, on your well-deserved achievement.

Turns out, Lainey Wilson has always been 'hell on wheels!' | Music City Minute
Do you know what I love about country artists? They are honest about their lives being similar to ours (aside from the global superstar thing). Yet, that is what is so special about the genre – just how down-to-earth artists can be. Speaking of relatable, Lainey Wilson recently shared a story about an incident from her younger days in Baskin, Louisiana, that found her on the wrong side of the law. “I got a ticket when I was 15 for going 75 [mph] in a 45 [mph zone]. Thank goodness the judge was my next door neighbor and he made me write a song about speeding,” Wilson admits. While many of us can relate to a speeding ticket, I do not think any of us were lucky enough to receive the same specific consequences. Regardless, I cannot help but appreciate the elements of that story that screams small town. I mean, the population of Baskin is only about 250 folks after all. At the end of the day though, the “Heart Like A Truck” singer’s cheeky story could be an awesome country song; however, instead of the judge being her neighbor, she should change it to “granddad” for that real country bite.

Max McNown shares his musical passions and greatest influences | Music City Minute
Max McNown has come a long way from growing up in Bend, Oregon, busking on the San Clemente pier in California, then landing in Nashville, where he writes and records hit songs. The 24-year-old recently opened up about some of the most influential artists who make up his catalog of favorites, which includes Zach Bryan, Noah Kahan, Tyler Childers and perhaps most interestingly a Boulder-based indie singer-songwriter. “Gregory Alan Isakov is one of my favorite artists of all time. I would love to pick his brain on how he writes his music – because the way that he writes, the way that he creates the world with his songs that you’re going to be living in as you listen to him, is something that I could really learn from,” said McNown. I personally love that quote, because we can really hear the admiration and awe dripping from every word in that statement. I really feel like the next time the "Better Me For You" singer plays the Denver area, KYGO could work a few local contacts to make that life changing meeting happen!

Darius Rucker surprises fans with new venture outside of music | Music City Music
I have a confession in my not-so-distant past: I was obsessed with professional wrestling, which culminated in a peak fan moment of meeting Rey Mysterio Junior. If that seems like a surprising admission, I have more for you! As it turns out, Darius Rucker (yes, Hootie) is a huge professional wrestling fanboy. In fact, he is such a big fan he signed a deal with WWE to get a slice of a pie through merchandise. The "Wagon Wheel" singer has launched a new clothing line with WWE and Fanatics featuring t-shirts, flannels and jackets, with prices ranging between $40 and $110. Now, with all this exciting news, we cannot help but wonder if Rucker is going to find himself climbing into the ring anytime soon. I mean, he is an incredibly fit guy for almost 60. Moreover, if he does suit up the spandex, what do you think his wrestling name would be? According to the Wrestling Name Generator, he would be called Wayne "Big Body" Stone, a heel whose finishing move is a right-handed kick.

Ella Langley's fan club has two new high-profile members | Music City Minute
In country music, Ella Langley is the hottest thing on two wheels. On the heels of releasing her sophomore album, "Dandelion," Langley admits she is still getting used to superstardom. The Alabama native has been open about her struggles with imposter syndrome, anxiety and weight of her bangs being recognized everywhere she goes. While Ella's bona fide talent speaks for itself, at heart, the 26-year-old remains a no-name girl with a guitar and a dream. That said, Langley hilariously shared how she gets starstruck when meeting country legends and icons. One particular "freak out" happened when meeting Blake Shelton and Eric Church. The "Weren't For The Wind" singer went as far to declare she was having a fangirl moment and needed a beat to act "weird" and get out her excitement. With that in mind, I wonder how Langley would act if the opportunity arose to meet two of her biggest fans, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick? In fact, the couple posted an adorable video covering the song "Be Her," that has gone viral. Not going to lie, if I was Ella, I would end up screaming, crying and throwing up (not necessarily in that order) if Valentine from "Tremors" and Julia from "Heart and Souls" covered one of my original songs!

Country songs that have reached 1 billion streams | Music City Minute
While most of us have a basic grasp of mathematical concepts, it can be difficult to fathom the difference between 1 million and 1 billion. For instance, 1 million seconds equals about 11.5 days, whereas 1 billion seconds adds up to just over 31 years! Needless to say, 1 billion is a big number, and when a song reaches 1 billion streams, it is an equally massive accomplishment. Currently, there are 15 country songs apart of this ultra-exclusive club, with the newest member being Sam Hunt and his song "Body Like A Back Road." The rest of the honors include Dasha's "Austin," Taylor Swift's "Love Story," Dan and Shay's "10,000 Hours," "I Had Some Help" from Post Malone and Morgan Wallen. These are followed by Chris Stapleton's "Tennessee Whiskey," Bebe Rexha's "Meant To Be," Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)," "Old Town Road" from Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus, Zach Bryan’s "Something In The Orange" and "I Remember Everything." Eric Church pushes through pain to deliver pulse-pounding show for Jacksonville fans | Music City Minute
In show business, there are two important phrases artists live by: "break a leg" (meaning good luck) and "the show must go on." That said, it would seem Eric Church has taken both of those phrases a little too seriously, and let’s just say the 48 hours leading up to a recent Jacksonville, Florida, show were just as incredible and unforgettable as the concert itself. Acknowledging his mismatched footwear (consisting of a regular boot and walking cast boot), the North Carolina native recounted how he accidentally kicked the *#!% out of his suitcase, resulting in a broken left foot. Yet, regardless of the cast, Church promised to make up for his lack of mobility with a passionate performance. Needless to say, the Chief certainly lived up to his word, with fans confirming a lively 2 1/2-hour performance. Not only that, the 48-year-old added a little flourish to the song "These Boots" by singing the line "Nearly kicked that suitcase across the room!" Thankfully, the "Springsteen" singer only has two more dates left on his calendar before a nice long break until June.

Jo Dee Messina opens up about weight loss, wellness and new music | Music City Minute
You may have heard artists, especially singers, refer to their body as their instrument, and as any good musician will tell you, it is important to take care of said instrument. With that, country icon Jo Dee Messina has made the conscious effort to maintain a finely tuned musical apparatus. Recently, the singer opened up about her life changes and new music. The 55-year-old admits her 90-pound weight loss can be difficult to maintain, especially on tour when all of the food you could possibly imagine is at your fingertips. To help offset impulsive temptations, Messina has changed her rider requirements from junk food and soda to leaner options like protein bars, water, coffee and electrolyte mixes. Additionally, the singer dedicates time every day for cardio and strength training, even if it is light. Although these changes may seem small, the CMA and ACM winner says that she feels more spiritually and emotionally alive than ever and distilled those positive vibes into a brand new album called "Bridges," dropping this summer.

Mitchell Tenpenny expands his family | Music City Minute
In a world of doom scrolling and artificial intelligence, it feels like good news is hard to come by. However, for the second time this week, I found myself crying happy tears while watching a reel from Mitchell Tenpenny and his wife Meghan Patrick. In a beautiful announcement, Patrick mentioned how thankful she is for an amazing husband who will also make an amazing dad. Shocked and nearly speechless, Tenpenny only managed to ask “Are you serious?” Later in the reel, the couple revealed they are expecting a baby girl. As the video wrapped, Mitchell pulled the best practical joke, telling his wife nothing recorded (giving Meghan quite the start!) Thankfully, all the sweet and hilarious content ended up fully recorded for posterity and internet. Congratulations to happy the Mama and Papa who cannot wait for baby Tenpenny to arrive this fall.

Parker McCollum lands Hail Mary pass to young fan with cancer | Music City Minute
Similar to Batman, Parker McCollum received a distress signal and responded without hesitation. Recently, a woman named Alana opened about her 17-year-old son Kolton’s battle with an aggressive form of leukemia and equally aggressive treatments in Houston, Texas. In February, as Kolton was reaching the end of his current cycle, his mom bought tickets to the Parker McCollum show at Rodeo Houston to celebrate. Yet, a higher power had very different plans for the family. As it turns out, a donor was miraculously matched with Kolton, and a transplant was arranged, but unfortunately, it also meant that he would miss the Rodeo Huston concert. However, thankfully that higher power wasn’t finished. Unbeknownst to the teen, his mom had reached out to Parker McCollum’s team, explained the situation and simply asked for a signed t-shirt in lieu of attending the show. Well, the “Pretty Heart” singer would have none of that and instead decided to visit the teen personally. Needless to say, the singer’s kindness meant so much to Kolton and his mom. Not only that, since the private meet and greet, Colton has gone into a complete remission and will be heading home any day.

Nashville + pro rodeo + country music = Music City rodeo and Grand Ole Opry takeover! | Music City Minute 
Tim McGraw, Reba McEntire and Jelly Roll all agree that rodeo and country music go together like Vienna sausages and Cheese Whiz or 38-inch wheels and KC Lights on your daily driver. With that in mind, it always felt unusual that a city like Nashville wouldn’t regularly host any major pro rodeo events. However, Miss Reba, McGraw and Jelly decided it was time to change the game and officially launched Music City Rodeo last May. This year’s annual event is set to take place at the Bridgestone Arena, May 28 through 30 and will feature headline performances by Miranda Lambert, Charley Crockett and Jon Pardi. Not only that, a newly announced event has been added to the lineup of festivities in which Music City Rodeo takes over the Grand Ole Opry with live music from Ashley Cook, Hudson Westbrook and Jon Pardi, May 5. Yes sir, it is always 5 o'clock somewhere! | Music City Minute
The influence of two major players in the country and rock genres will continue to inspire generations of fans, young and old, in the form of a festival. This year, West Palm Beach, Florida, will be hosting the inaugural Alan Jackson’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere Fest. Embodying the vibes of the famous – or should we say infamous – collaboration between Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett, the 5 O’Clock Somewhere Fest will be a destination festival like no other. Carrie Underwood: fame is for the adults, let the kids be kids | Music City Minute
Carrie Underwood has opened up about her personal life, specifically whether or not she would encourage her young sons Isaiah and Jacob to audition for a show such as "American Idol." While Underwood believes both of our sons are naturally talented singers, even pointing out how Isaiah is a mini her in so many ways, she is certainly not eager to become a stage mom. The season four "American Idol" winner admits neither of our sons are ready for the stage. Furthermore, she would only give her blessing to compete on a reality show such as "American Idol" when her boys are older and more established. In the meantime, Carrie Underwood and her husband Mike Fisher are perfectly content with their kids being kids and maintaining a very strict separation between home and work. Sounds like the proud Mama and Papa are doing what they can to raise their boys right.

Sam Hunt's career rides on a surprising number of studio albums | Music City Minute
When Sam Hunt burst onto the country music scene, he was primed and marketed as the next big thing. That said, he has certainly proved himself as a recording artist and performer over the last decade. Even though he has charted eleven number one songs, Hunt has only released two studio albums since signing with MCA Nashville. Even by today’s standards – with most country albums averaging 15 to 30 songs that an artist can promote for about two years – two albums since 2014 is ridiculously low by comparison. However, Sam Hunt is not alone in this uniquely tiny boat. For instance, The Band Perry has only put out three country albums, Jamey Johnson only has four studio albums to his name and sadly, Keith Whitley only recorded three albums before passing away in 1989. By the way, very few artists and bands can compare to Willie Nelson, who has put out 104 studio albums over 70 years, averaging about 15 albums a decade!

Country Music Hall of Fame Class of 2026 confirmed | Music City Minute
Well, butter my backside and call me a biscuit – Tim McGraw is joining the Country Music Hall of Fame! The good news came down on Friday, March 20, with McGraw earning a spot in the Modern Era category, which recognizes artists who have achieved national prominence over 20 years. As for the Veterans Era category, Ralph and Carter Stanley, (aka The Stanley Brothers) are being honored for their decadeslong career, which is punctuated by their most popular tune, "Man of Constant Sorrow." Interestingly, the Stanley Brothers band, known as the Clinch Mountain Boys, included a number of influential musicians, such as Ricky Skaggs and Keith Whitley. Finally, Paul Overstreet was selected in honor of his legendary storytelling. In fact, his songwriting credits are linked to massively popular songs such as "Forever and Ever Amen," "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy," "When You Say Nothing At All" and "Some Ole Me," recorded by The Possum, George Jones. Huge congratulations to this year's inductees!

Y’all, it has happened – the reunion we have been wishing, hoping, thinking and praying for since August 31, 2022. Just a few days ago, Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard took the stage together in Nashville for a live performance! The reason for the band getting back together had to do with their good friend Jason Aldean, who was the guest of honor at a celebration of the 49-year-old, Georgia boy's decadeslong career and catalog of hits. As it turns out, Brian Kelley, Tyler Hubbard and Morgan Wallen cowrote Aldean's 2018 hit, "You Make It Easy", and the boys of FGL performed the song for an ecstatic crowd. While the performance may have been just a one-off situation, the energy between Kelley and Hubbard was palpable. Even though the future is a mystery *knock on wood* a full-scale reunion is feels closer than ever.

Fresh batch of country tunes sweeter than a spring nectarine | Music City Minute
Spring is an enchanting time, and honestly, a second chance at a new beginning. Now, technically, the spring equinox does not occur until Friday, March 20, but it is never too early for "Blue Skies" and "Starting Over." In fact, you can begin stirring up those good vibes with the playlist of brand new music from our favorite country artist. Fresh off the acetate press, Luke Combs dropped a new single called "I Ain’t No Cowboy." Tucker Wetmore sings about summer love in "Sunburn." Flatland Calvary‘s latest single is called "Real Slow," while Lainey Wilson dropped an autobiographical song called "Can’t Sit Still." Carly Pearce and Riley Green put out a very steamy collaboration titled "If I Don’t Leave, I’m Gonna Stay." Kane Brown gushes about his "Woman," as Miss Kacey Musgraves endures "A Dry Spell." Bailey Zimmerman and Brandon Lake teamed up for "Just Believe," and Noah Kahan released a single called, "Porch Light." Charley Crockett fans rejoice his newly released single "Fastest Gun Alive," and the über adorable Chase Matthew just dropped "Bet This Town." Hot dang, that is almost an hour of fresh tunes sweeter than a spring nectarine.

Riley Green: 'Well, this is going to be a fun story to tell in the emergency room...' | Music City Minute
Since the dawn of creative expression, artists have been the target of some gnarly flying projectiles. Over the centuries, this behavior has been dubbed fan-mania, which is very different from the run-of-the-mill "boo fest," where a disgruntled audience would throw rotting vegetables (and other naturally occurring organic material) at performers. Some of the earliest documented fan-mania dates back to the 1840s with pianist Franz Liszt, whose audience would toss flowers and tokens during his performance. Apparently, a facet of Beatlemania was throwing jellybeans at the British band, while Tom Jones fans would often toss their undergarments on stage. Understandably, many fans will probably think their actions are harmless. However, in the 2020s, I have seen a sharp uptick in injuries related to fan-mania. One of the latest incidents happened to Riley Green while he was performing in Melbourne, Australia. In the middle of the concert, a fan’s cell phone hit Green in the head, leaving him with a bloody gash on his earlobe requiring five stitches. Can we please all agree to stop this nonsense and act as if we have had home training and not like "degens" from up country? Your favorite artist would appreciate it. (BTW, the so called "fan" who threw the phone was practically tarred, feathered and run out of the venue on a rail.)
