Bomb squad detonates suspicious device found at elementary school in Kaysville
On Saturday afternoon, Kaysville police responded to a report of a suspicious homemade firework or pipe bomb device found in the area of Endeavor Elementary School. The device was safely detonated the bomb squad and no students were at the school at the time. Kaysville Police Department Public Information Officer, Noelia Sarmiento, joins the show to discuss the latest with this scary situation.

KSL NewsRadio Reporter Don Brinkerhoff recently spoke to Washington County Clerk Ryan Sullivan about mail-in voting in Washington County. After former CD2 candidate Colby Johnson claimed that mail sent to Las Vegas was postmarked as late and wrongly counted, Sullivan conducted experiments in the timeliness of mail delivery to Las Vegas and back. His results showed that the postmark in Vegas was not reason for major concern. Maura and Dave listen in on some of Brinkerhoff's and Sullivan's interview, and discuss the question "Have we overcomplicated voting?"

Student loan forgiveness, Utah institutions face budget cuts

Things are moving in education on a national and local level. On Thursday the Biden Administration approved $4.5 billion in relief to help teachers, firefighters and other service workers that have been paying off their debt for over 10 years. House Speaker Mike Schultz is instructing Utah's higher education institutions to trim their budgets by 10%. Dave explores the costs of higher education from tuition costs, to administration costs and student loans.

D News: Utah food tax survives near death experience 

Two amendments listed on this year's ballot are not really there, one of them includes Amendment A. The amendment would have removed the earmark that gave all Utah income tax collections to public and higher education, but it ALSO said a yes vote meant “state statute will eliminate the state sales tax on food.” As this amendment is now void  on the ballot, Dave speaks with Jay Evensen, Opinion Editor of the Deseret News about what this means for the future of the food tax.
