Lamar Reviews - "The Terminal List" (Airdate 7/22/2022)

This caught my eye on Amazon Prime because I have read the book that the series is based on. It is the first of 5 books written by former Navy SEAL Jack Carr. But what really sealed the deal on watching it was Chris Pratt playing the main character James Reese. I became a Chris Pratt fan watching Parks and Recreation, which is one of my top 5 comedies ever. He played the office buffoon Andy Dwyer from 2009 to 2015. When he showed up 60 pounds lighter and cut like a bodybuilder for a small part as a Navy SEAL in Zero Dark Thirty, I was like “No way!” Then in 2014 he snatches the lead in Guardians of the Galaxy, followed in 2015 with Jurassic World, and he hasn’t looked back. I love this guy, he is so likeable, and at the same time in this type of movie, he’s a badass.

In this eight-episode series on Prime Video he plays James Reece, who leads a Navy Seal team on a mission to bring down a notorious bomb maker. Something goes terribly wrong on the mission and his entire team is ambushed. When he gets back home things don’t seem right, his memory comes and goes, he loses his concentration.

When people try to kill him, and go after his family he decides it’s up to him to make it right. He only has two people he can trust, Ben, played by Taylor Kitsch, and a journalist named Katie, played by Constance Wu.

The money and greed that is behind this is tracked down to a list of people that has brought all of this on him, and Reece will not stop until he has killed them all. Yes, this is pure and simple a revenge movie, and for me a very good one.

The episodes are 55 minutes, Rated TV-MA for bloody violence, a lot of it.

It is inevitable that anytime a movie is made based on a book, the director cannot just stick with the book, they have to add or take away something. That is exactly what happened with this series. They completely changed the ending. I don’t have a problem with the ending they came up with, but, it was not a better ending than the book, so why change it? When you have something that is perfect, leave it alone. Different is not always better. That is exactly how Turkey Bacon came to be.

Some idiot said “Wow, this bacon is really good, it’s actually the perfect food, so I’m going to change it and make it better!”

I will say, I am a little surprised to see Chris Pratt, at this point in his career doing a series on Prime. But John Krasinski is scheduled for a third season of Jack Ryan so who knows?

The show is somewhat predictable, but the action is really good, the revenge is sweet, and I love Chris Pratt.
