Lamar Reviews - The Devil Wears Prada 2 (Airdate 5/8/2026)

In 2006 the original The Devil Wears Prada was
all the rage. Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly,
remained larger than life, intimidating, demanding,
with a razor-sharp tongue, and hilarious. Anne
Hathaway did a fantastic job as her assistant,
Andy, who had no idea of what she was doing.
They were the meat in this movie and Stanley
Tucci, as Nigel, was the salt, pepper, and garlic
that enhanced every scene he is in.
The movie opened strong and made well over
$300 million with a budget of less than $41 million.
It went well above expectations and stayed
popular with a cult following for years.
All of that is a perfect setup for a sequel, why did it
take so long?
The reason it took 20 years for this movie is
because Meryl Streep hates to do any sequels to
her own movies. The only other sequel she did
was Mama Mia! Here We Go Again in 2018. It was
10 years after the original, and she only agreed to
do it if her role was reduced. It took many years of

negotiations and a bunch of money to get her to
do this movie. Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt
thought it was never going to happen.
In the sequel, years have passed and Andy has
moved on and become an award-winning
journalist doing hard hitting great work. The
decline of newspapers causes her and her
colleagues to be laid off.
She gets a surprise call offering her job back at
Runway magazine to help with some bad press
that is causing them problems. Miranda is less
than thrilled with having Andy back, and in fact
maintains she doesn’t even remember her ever
being her assistant.
The movie is 2 hours long, Rated PG-13.
This movie suffers from the same problems that all
sequels face. The first movie was successful or
that wouldn’t be a sequel so there are
expectations. The main character, in this case,
Miranda makes such a huge impression the first
time, it is very hard to create that the second time.
Catching lighting in a bottle twice is very hard.

Luckily the world of the original has had many
changes so the sequel cannot travel the same
roads. Miranda finds herself being restrained by
HR. She has someone sitting beside her to keep
her snide remarks more politically correct. And a
scene showing her trying to hang up her own coat
since she can no longer just throw it at an
underling is really clever.
And because Runway needs advertisers more
than advertisers need Runway, she is forced
kowtow to Emily, played again by Emily Blunt, who
is now running Dior. Triva Fact: You may know or
not know, Stanley Tucci is married to Emily Blunt’s
sister Felicity.
There were numerous cameos you can look for,
Lady Gaga as herself, Donatella Versace as her
scary self, Heidi Klum, Naomi Campbell, to name
a few.
Honestly, I went into this movie with low
expectations, but I found myself pleasantly
surprised by how much I enjoyed it by the end.
My Score: 4 Buds
