Lamar Reviews - Lover Stalker Killer (Airdate 2/16/2024)

Netflix has become the go-to when it comes to documentaries, especially about murder, stalker, crime stuff. If you have not watched American Nightmare on Netflix yet, stop reading or listening to this review right now. Go straight to your TV and pull it up and binge watch all 3 episodes. Once you have done that, come back and finish this review. Those of you who have already watched it know exactly what I’m talking about. American Nightmare would be a great fictional movie, but it is actually an insane true story. I would have said, as a true crime documentary, it doesn’t get any better. Then Lover Stalker Killer said, “Hold my beer.”

The Documentary stars with a 911 call of a female voice saying, “I’ve been shot!” Then we meet Dave Kroupa who actually appears as himself. He comes across as a nice, no-nonsense guy who found himself single at 35 and wanting to get back into dating in Omaha Nebraska, in 2012. He hopped on a dating site called Plenty of Fish.

He matched with Shanna Elizabeth Golyar, who went by Liz. They both were single with children and shared some common interests, and neither one was looking for a serious long-term relationship. This was perfect for Dave. They were going out and having fun, but it stayed light and not serious. A few months pass by and Cari Farver brought her car into Dave’s auto repair shop, he is a mechanic. Dave found her to be very attractive. Later on as he was going through the dating sight he saw her profile. He clicked on it and said, “I know you.” She wrote back, “I know you too.” Turns out they have a lot in common, including not wanting to get serious, just having fun. One night while Cari was visiting Dave, Liz shows up to get something she left at his apartment. This of course was very awkward for all parties involved. Liz and Cari did not interact, and barley made eye contact. The next day Dave gets a text from Cari saying, “we need to move in together.” Dave responded, “We talked about that.” and reminder Cari that they had agreed to keep it casual. Cari flipped!

She started texting him horrible messages, telling him she was going to ruin his life, and all kinds of other threats. Then he would get texts about what he was doing, and pictures of him doing it. She was continually stalking him. She starts doing the same to Liz, and to Dave’s ex-wife and kids. Nobody could get any peace. And then it really gets crazy! I wish I could say more, but you will thank me.

The movie is 1 hour 30 minutes of tense mind blowing drama. It has some language.

This is not happening in New York or LA. This is small town America with small police departments. The amazing efforts of 2 investigators, and a part time volunteer I.T. guy, to solve this will blow your mind.

After watching American Nightmare, and this, I don’t think there will be any kind of murderous documentary to top these. Prove me wrong Netflix, please prove me wrong!
