Episode Description
For our 90th episode, you'll hear the story of a man who fought drug and alcohol addiction for 30 years, overcome it with Jesus...then he was overweight, lost 100 pounds in 8 months...now helps others physically and spiritually through a ministry in Georgia. Hear inspiring stories like this by subscribing to "Run The Race"!
(5:35) Rob Morgan, HR & Family Services coordinator for Valley Rescue Mission in Columbus GA, was close to 300 pounds and talks about a breakthrough moment with his daughter at Six Flags that led to his weight loss journey. Hear how prayer and cutting out certain foods were keys to his success. (9:54) He went from being tired when running a block to going as far as 10 miles, the fitness and spiritual side of running.
He's dealt with a lot of adversity or crisis, (14:40) which opens doors for using our faith, which for him is shaken but not broken. You maybe able to relate. Rob talks to God, even gets mad and yells at Him. Do you really have a relationship with God? This changed man challenges us, using Psalm 4:3.
(20:44) He describes some of what he went through during 3 decades of addiction, recently celebrating 12 years of sobriety. Rob also talks about his biggest weapon in fighting the enemy, what it has to do with Jesus. (24:32) Finishing off a tough battle with COVID-19 now, when he thought he'd die, he talks about what God taught him during the isolation, unable to serve others in person.
(30:17) Running has turned into an outlet for him, but pre-COVID injuries stripped that ability from him, so he says don't take for granted your ability to exercise, run. What does he think of his new Peloton bike? And he has 3 key pieces of advice when it comes to fitness and your health!
The holiday season can be tough, so (37:44) Rob talks about what his employer/ministry does to help those in need with toys, addiction recovery, utility bills, all that being a part of serving Christ, as he and others do what Jesus instructed: "Follow Me." (45:28) I pray for Rob and you.
(48:22) In the closing segments, I sing a little of country hit "Live Like You Were Dying" (Stuck in my Head) and we get some inspiring words about overcoming adversity (Parting Gift).
