An avalanche that was caught on camera racing down the steep mountain slopes near Juneau nearly reached a closed-down Thane Road Tuesday afternoon.

The worst flooding to hit Hawaii in two decades has swept homes off their foundations, floated cars out of driveways and left properties a mess. The Associated Press reported that more than 230 people have been rescued and no deaths have been reported.

On March 24, 1989, the tanker Exxon Valdez ran aground on Bligh Reef and spilled an estimated 11 million gallons of crude oil into Prince William Sound, unleashing one of the most consequential environmental disasters in U.S. history.
