All eight people aboard a charter aircraft that went down near a remote Western Alaska radar site on Thursday were killed following a second landing attempt in thick fog and low visibility, federal investigators announced Friday.

An Anchorage police officer whose patrol car struck a taxicab in midtown Anchorage in early August, killing two people, did not have the green light when he entered the intersection and was going above the speed limit, according to APD Chief Sean Case.

Police have identified the woman fatally shot by an Anchorage officer Tuesday as 53-year-old Lora Brady, following a lengthy standoff at a downtown residential building.

A plane crashed near Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site Airport, about 450 miles west of Anchorage.

Sam Harrel with the Alaska Division of Forestry confirmed by phone Wednesday that the Mukluk fire grew to the northwest and east on Wednesday, bringing the total burned area to approximately 6,756 acres. 

When an 800-pound Kodiak brown bear charged out of the brush on Tuesday, Katelynn Lane had only seconds to react.

A man is in stable condition after being shot by an Anchorage police officer Thursday afternoon, but no audio was captured on the officer body-worn cameras, according to Anchorage’s police chief.

 “There’s little reason to keep the session going,” Alaska’s Governor Mike Dunleavy, R, said on social media Thursday evening. It’s the tail end of a third special session to pass property tax exemptions for a private company in the hopes it creates an LNG pipeline.

An Alaska firefighter who died while fighting a wildfire in Minnesota will be brought home, according to the Anchorage Fire Department.

An Alaska wildland firefighter is dead following a medical emergency while serving as part of a team that was responding to fires in the Superior National Forest, according to the Grand Lake Volunteer Fire Department in Minnesota.

The natural gas supply outlook for Southcentral Alaska has grown increasingly precarious following a newly revealed dispute between the region’s primary gas utility and a major Cook Inlet producer.
