Hunt was the longest-serving governor in the state’s history, holding office for a total of 16 years from 1977 to 1985 and again from 1993 to 2001. Greg Biffle, the retired NASCAR driver, tragically passed away on December 18, 2025, in a plane crash near Statesville, North Carolina. The accident claimed the lives of seven people, including Biffle, his wife Cristina, their two children—daughter Emma, 14, and son Ryder, 5—and three others aboard the aircraft.
