The Winston-Salem State University women’s basketball team had a standout 2025-26 season, highlighted by winning the CIAA Women's Basketball Tournament championship for the first time in program history with a 60-43 victory over Fayetteville State University. They finished the year with an impressive record (around 25-3) and built momentum with dominant performances throughout the conference tournament, including a blowout semifinal win. Their success earned them a bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament, marking their first appearance in years. In the tournament, they defeated Glenville State University in the opening round and followed that with a strong 67-48 win over Gannon University to reach the Atlantic Region championship game. However, their run ended yesterday when they lost to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, falling just one game short of advancing to the Division II Final Four.
The NCAA First Four takes place this week and officially begins the 2026 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament.
