The new film "The Carpenter" is a bit of a mash-up of things you might not expect to find in the same movie.  An MMA-type fighter in the time of Jesus Christ.  A white man with red hair in 1st century Israel.  Needle drops from Metallica in a movie heavily connected to religion.

In this Movie Show Digital Extra, producer & co-writer Kenny Krebs, and co-writer and star Kameron Krebs ("Oren") join Andy Farnsworth to talk about the movie, including how a family not connected to Hollywood had the desire to not just make a movie, but to make one that they would like to watch. To them, it's a deeply personal and even miraculous movie that has required a multi-year effort and a heavy personal financial investment even as they endured personal trials and tragedies.

Eddie Brock and his friend Venom are back one last time! Venom: The Last Dance hits theaters today. Will Andy & Steve give it 5 stars out of 5? Other movies hitting theaters this weekend are Conclave, Your Monster, and The Man You Don't Know.

The new film "Six Days in August" takes the viewer to 19th Century Illinois.  Nauvoo, to be exact, in the summer of 1844.  Joseph Smith, the prophet and first president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints had just been killed by his enemies, and the surviving leadership wasn't sure what to do next, and more importantly, who should be the next leader.  What followed would decide the course of history for thousands, and eventually millions of people.

In this Movie Show Digital Extra, writer/director Mark Goodman (who previously directed "Witnesses") and actors Jenessa Sheffield (who plays Vilate Kimball) and Ted Bushman (who plays Wilford Woodruff) join Andy Farnsworth to talk about making the movie, including not shying away from the more sensitive or (to some) controversial aspects of history to depict these characters, warts and all; how they decided on who to cast as Brigham Young; what connections the actors felt to the characters; some of the funnier moments that took place during production; what things surprised them in the process of making the movie, and what ultimately they hope those who see the film will take away from it.

It’s another MOVIE SHOW DIGITAL EXTRA--Interviews and discussions that co-hosts Andy Farnsworth & Steve Salles know our loyal listeners will love listening to, but that we unfortunately don’t have time to include in our weekly radio broadcast. 

For this Digital Extra, Andy is joined by Utah filmmaker Garrett Batty, whose latest movie “Faith of Angels” (which he wrote and directed) hits theaters starting September 12^th.  It tells the story of the search and miraculous rescue of 10-year old Joshua Dennis after he was lost in a Utah mine for five days in 1989.

Garrett, whose previous films include “Freetown”, “The Saratov Approach”, and “Out of Liberty”, talks about why he was drawn to this particular story, explains how he made his casting choices, how he involved the actual people from the story in the writing and filmmaking process, and what parts of the movie really happened and which parts were changed.

ADVISORY: Some parts of the discussion could be considered spoilers for moments in the movie.

Jeff 'THEE" Whipple with Megaplex Theaters joins the show to talk about the Harry Potter marathon happening this weekend!

Fans of sci-fi and thriller movies, rejoice! Andy and Steve give Alien Romulus a thumbs up, describing it as a good time, though not for the faint of heart. Sing Sing hits theaters in a limited release this week, and if you find it playing near you, it is not to be missed. Outstanding performances all around make the movie Andy and Steve's personal pick of the week. Another suspenseful movie out this week is Skincare, starring Elizabeth Banks. Based on a true story, the film is sure to capture your attention in theaters.

Planning on staying in this weekend? Andy and Steve review Netflix's The Union, an action movie following a "nobody" (Mark Wahlberg) who joins a secret group of operatives tasked with protecting the identity of U.S. spies. Prime Video has released Jackpot!, a survival journey set in Los Angeles where average citizens try to kill lottery winner Katie (Awkwafina) and claim her winnings. Bad Monkey, now available on Apple TV+, features a detective-turned-restaurant-inspector in Southern Florida who is drawn into a world of greed and corruption after a tourist finds a severed arm while fishing. The tear-jerker documentary film Daughters, on Netflix, follows a group of incarcerated men as they prepare for a father-daughter dance in their prison.

Fasten your seatbelts! Today’s big movie of the week is the fantastical action comedy Borderlands, directed by Eli Roth. The film boasts big names such as Cate Blanchett, Jack Black (voice), and Kevin Hart. Based on a video game, this movie follows a motley crew of characters on an adventure through distant lands in search of treasures. It Ends With Us, directed by Justin Baldoni, also hits theaters this week. The film stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni himself and is based on a popular book by author Colleen Hoover.

In streaming, Apple TV+ debuts its newest movie, The Instigators, about a ragtag group of criminals aiming for a big prize, starring Matt Damon and Casey Affleck. MAX released its newest true crime docu-series, Taken Together: Who Killed Lyric and Elizabeth? The series breaks down the heartbreaking details of "the case that haunts the Midwest," diving into the haunting 2012 double abduction of two cousins, 10-year-old Lyric Cook-Morrissey and 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins, in Evansdale, Iowa.

Long-time Hollywood actor Colin Cunningham (“Horizon: An American Saga”, “The 6^th Day”, “Da Vinci’s Inquest”, “Stargate”) joins Andy Farnsworth to talk about how impressed he is with the movie industry in Utah.  Cunningham moved from New York to Utah in 2020 to be near family and, in his own words, thought his career was going to be over.  But he was blown away by the level of talented actors here, and the emerging filmmaking voices.  He says aspiring actors shouldn’t think they have move to L.A. or N.Y. to make it, since there are more and more great opportunities available right here in our own backyard.

He also his strong feelings about the current quality of most of the content coming out of Hollywood (he’s not impressed), and talks about his experience in Kevin Costner’s filmed-in-Utah epic “Horizon: An American Saga”, and his upcoming project “The Pendragon Chronicles”.

Get ready to let your imagination run wild, Harold and the Purple Crayon starring Zachery Levy and Zooey Deschanel hit theaters today! Will Andy and Steve give it 5 crayons out of 5? A scary thriller also makes its way to the big screen, Trap starring Josh Hartnett who plays an evil mastermind trying to get out of an arena surrounded by police! 

In streaming, on Apple TV+, Cowboy Cartel is a documentary about the Mexican cartel using horse racing to move drugs. Batman: Caped Crusader starts on Prime Video, over on Netflix Spongebob and his friend Sandy team up to save their beloved Bikini Bottom in Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie. 

It's finally here! Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters today! Will the third installment of the Deadpool series earn an A from Andy & Steve? This is the only Marvel/Disney movie coming out this year and this introduces the 'Merc with a Mouth' and Wolverine into the MCU. 

In streaming: Time Bandits(Apple TV+), Cirque Du Soleil: Without a Net(Prime Video), and Charlie Hustle & The Matter of Pete Rose(HBO) are all premiering this week. 

Andy & Steve will be doing a deep dive into the big movie of this week, Twisters which hits theaters this weekend!

They'll also discuss a charming story that involves a dog and a robot. Nicolas Cage is a serial killer in the movie Longlegs.
