Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of April 17, 2026. The big movie of the week is “Normal,” an action-comedy starring Bob Odenkirk as the substitute sheriff of a small town in MN who finds out the town is anything *but* normal.

“The Christophers,” starring Ian McKellen and Michaela Cole is a stronger dramatic option, but may still have a limited appeal. The writer of the movie wrote the script with these two actors in mind, and their performances didn't disappoint. But it's a little too art-community-insider for a mass appeal audience.

Now streaming on Netflix is the second season of the Emmy-winning series “Beef,” with a new cast and new storyline. It's about two couples who make an escalating series of bad decisions in their efforts to get back at each other…that might make audiences a bit confused and unsatisfied. 

Not previewed, but still coming out this weekend is “Lee Cronin's The Mummy,” with a current RottenTomatoes score of 45%Tomatometer from Critics, and 76% Popcornmeter from audiences.

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of April 10, 2026.  A new rom-com called “You, Me & Tuscany” gives good "Big Fat Greek Wedding" vibes. The latest take on “Hamlet,” starring Riz Ahmed, keeps the original Shakespearean dialogue while bringing a modern perspective of the story. 

And for a nostalgic streaming trip of the week, you can check out the four-episode reunion/sequel series called “Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair” on Hulu/Disney+. It brings back all but one of the living actors who played roles in the early 2000's hit sitcom.  Do we NEED this show? Maybe not.  But is andy glad we have this show?  ABSOLUTELY!

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of April 10, 2026. Three really solid movies in theaters for Easter weekend led by “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” bringing back the world's most famous video game plumber and his crew (now including Yoshi!) for another adventure. This time, they have to save another Princess, in outer space!

“The Drama,” starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, is not what it looks like from the outside, but Andy could not stop thinking about it for the next couple of days after he saw it.  It asks the question: How would people see us differently if they knew about the worst thing we've ever done?

A great option to kick off America250 is the movie “A Great Awakening,” about the friendship between Founding Father Benjamin Franklin and the fiery preacher Rev. George Whitefield.  The film was inspiring, patriotic and very much worth the watch!

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of March 27, 2026. The big movie of this week, “They Will Kill You,” is incredibly similar to one of last week's movies, “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come.” Similar plot, similar villains, similar (anti)heroines. But this one is a bit funnier with more of a video game vibe throughout. 

For streaming viewers, there is an intriguing and clever sci-fi action movie on Hulu/Disney called “Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice,” starring Vince Vaughn, James Marsden and Eiza Gonzalez and an especially funny Jimmy Tatro in the ensemble. Also streaming, Marvel fans (the older ones anyway) will enjoy the return of Charlie Cox in season 2 of “Daredevil: Born Again.” Stakes are high, similarities to real world situations are uncanny (even though this is based on a comic book storyline from 10 years ago).

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of March 20, 2026. "Project Hail Mary" is the big release of the week and probably the best movie of the year so far… or even last year. While trying to not get listeners over-hyped, Ryan Gosling does a phenomenal job in this funny, charming and visually stunning sci-fi film based on the book of the same name from “The Martian” writer Andy Weir. 

Also out on the big screen, the goofy violence rules the day in "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come" which has some great actors like (Samara Weaving, Kathryn Newton, Elijah Wood) but it just didn't click for Andy--even though some people will like this horror sequel full of deals with devils, sisterly strife, and a kids game turned evil. 

On streaming, if you can handle some of the vulgar jokes, "Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat” is almost as funny as the first season of "Jury Duty,” with a mockumentary/realitytv vibe.

Streaming on Amazon Prime, "Scarpetta" finally gives Patricia Cornwall's iconic medical examiner character Kay Scarpetta, her own series. (Not just a copy of one!) And Netflix's hit series "One Piece" gets a second season of this almost live-action-cartoon story of a pirate seeking a mythical treasure.

This week debuts the first of two Disney/Pixar films due in 2026: "Hoppers", which is a very funny tale about a girl who uses an "Avatar"-like invention to try and convince the wildlife to come back to populate a pond. 

Streaming on Netflix, you can watch Alan Ritchson channel 80's Schwarzenegger, as he battles a Predator-like machine from another world in “War Machine.” And on Amazon Prime video, the best new series of the year is "Young Sherlock," which is produced (and a couple of episodes directed) by Guy Ritchie. Interesting mystery, lots of twists, an 1800's setting, and entertaining story and performances mean you won't want to miss this!

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of February 27, 2026. After a crash course in the “Scream” movie universe, Andy was prepared to watch the big movie of the week "Scream 7.” He is still unsure about the whole franchise as it is a lot to watch that many people meet their untimely demise. 

On streaming there is a documentary, "Threshold," about cross-country gold medalist Jessie Diggins, who was the best in the world while also battling an eating disorder. It is quite a powerful story that shows her strengths and weaknesses in an equally honest way.

Finally, you can probably skip "The Bluff," a streaming movie that basically felt like it was the movie "Taken," but instead of Liam Neeson's covert-ops skilled character, they changed it to a lady pirate played by Priyanka Chopra-Jonas.  One point in its favor: It also has Karl Urban as a pirate.

One is a Christian music-based film sequel based on a true story called "I Can Only Imagine 2," which has a powerful message in addition to its uplifting music. The other film is a *dark* comedy called "How To Make a Killing" where Glen Powell is the illegitimate, disowned heir to a massive fortune that he may be able to claim... if all his cousins were to meet untimely demise.

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of February 13, 2026. For this Valentine's/President's Day weekend there are movie options for everyone.

First up is the "adaptation" of the classic novel "Wuthering Heights" from Academy Award-winning screenwriter/director Emerald Fennell and starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. This is likely to be enjoyed more by the young adult crowd than the fans of the original book. Heed the content rating on this one if you were thinking of sending your teens to see it.

For those looking for action we have the movie "Crime 101" starring Chris Hemsworth, Halle Berry, Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan, and Monica Barbaro.  Pretty decent crime thriller that was just a bit too long.

Finally, something for the whole family is "GOAT," an animated movie that is kind of like what if Zootopia had a sports league.  Good voice cast (including Steph Curry as a giraffe) that was fun and interesting and, yes, somewhat cliched.

Singer/songwriter Kenny Loggins is known as the "King of Movie Soundtracks," with his biggest hits coming from “Caddy Shack,” “Top Gun,” and the Utah filmed 80s’ classic, “Footloose.“ Now he has added a new honor to his resume, as he was inducted into the ‘People's Music Hall of Fame' in Salt Lake City on February 7th, 2026.

Sure, "enjoyable" and "Kevin James" and "romance" are not often used in the same sentence but this time it is true.  The other rom-com is on streaming and is called "Relationship Goals" and is apparently based on a book by a midwest Pastor.  It stars Kelly Rowland and Method Man and is in a different vein and style from "Solo Mio", but I found it enjoyable in its own way.

Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson star in the new crime movie "Mercy" with no jury, no lawyers, and just an AI judge. 

For a family friendly pick, Angel Studio’s "Standout: The Ben Kjar Story" is an incredible, inspirational true story with Utah roots. It tells you about the three-time Utah high school state champion, UVU's first-ever all-American, and eventual world champion wrestler who did it all with Crouzon Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder. And Andy says it's absolutely worth your time! Also 

Streaming on Netflix and also featuring Utah roots, the new documentary "Kidnapped: Elizabeth Smart" actually does manage to shed some new light on a story that you might think you've already heard everything about.

On the eve of the Oscar Nominations, as the entertainment award season just gets into full swing, producer KellieAnn Halvorsen (the fangirl) and guest host Rachel Wagner (the film critic) come together to pick the best and worst films of 2025. The big movie of the week is the latest in a franchise, "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple," is a zombie horror film with weird charm and a lot of violence that's not made for some movie-goers. Streaming on Netflix a tense new Ben Affleck/Matt Damon action flick called "The Rip" has plenty of action and intrigue, but plenty of adult language too. Also on Netflix, the e-episode mystery series “Agatha Christie's Seven Dials” is an enjoyable watch for those who like Britain and murder mysteries and shows set in the past.

Getting Started on Julia Cameron’s ‘Artist Way.’

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of January 9, 2026. Our Big Movie this week is Gerard Butler & Morena Baccarin returning in the disaster-movie sequel "Greenland 2: Migration", a decent-but-not-great follow up to 2020's "Greenland".  An excellent option in theaters is "Is This Thing On?," where Will Arnett copes with his marital estrangement by...doing stand-up comedy. But there's more to it than just that and Laura Dern is also excellent. The best option is (According to Andy) is Angel Studios’ "I Was A Stranger." It tells a powerful story of  Syrian refugees that brought him to tears in one of those tough-to-watch-but-worth-it of films.

For streaming fodder, Netflix has an adaptation of the romance novel "People We Meet on Vacation" that, while I have a few minor quibbles, was still relatively entertaining.

For streaming, Netflix has a new documentary movie, "Evil Influencer: The Jodi Hildebrandt Story," that looks deeper into how a person who at one time was a licensed therapist could eventually be arrested for horrific child abuse. Peacock has a new intriguing spy thriller series streaming, "The Copenhagen Test" that stars Simu Liu & Melissa Barrera. There are elements of traditional spy genre movies and shows, as well as a fascinating "Truman Show"-esque angle that is intriguing and has audiences hooked!

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the long Thanksgiving weekend 2025. The plentiful offerings during the long Thanksgiving box-office weekend offer many options for your viewing pleasure. Starting with the highly enjoyable  "Zootopia 2," which brings the animal (and reptile) gang back to the big screen for the first time in 9 years. The whole family will enjoy this one! The grown-ups will have a bit more fun with "Eternity", where Elizabeth Olsen has to choose how to spend eternity and which husband she'll spend it with. It's a tough choice, but someone's gotta do it!

On streaming, Mark Wahlberg's family action comedy from a couple of years ago gets a sequel called "The Family Plan 2".  If you liked the first one, the second one is more of the same bloodless action with some dad jokes thrown in there for good measure. Also available on streaming is the first four episodes of the final season of the Netflix megahit "Stranger Things.” But you will have to wait until New Year's Eve for the final final episode and the close of the saga.
