Every September, 50-plus bartenders from around the country (and beyond) gather on Washington Island to fight prickly juniper bushes for their dark purple berries. This month marks the 11th annual Juniper Harvest Festival, hosted by Death's Door Distillery. The juniper they harvest will be a primary ingredient in the company's gin.
