Lux Radio Theater #48, "Alias Jimmy Valentine," brings Pat O'Brien to life as Jimmy Valentine, a skilled safecracker released from Sing Sing Prison with hopes of starting fresh. After receiving a pardon from the governor, Jimmy walks out determined to find honest work and leave his criminal past behind. However, the outside world proves unwelcoming as one job opportunity after another crumbles when employers discover his prison record. No matter how hard he tries to prove himself reformed, doors keep closing in his face.
Making matters worse, Detective Doyle, the man who originally sent Jimmy to prison on what Jimmy insists was framed evidence, refuses to believe in redemption. Doyle shadows Jimmy's every move, convinced it's only a matter of time before the ex-con returns to cracking safes. As the detective menacingly promises to watch Jimmy's every step and slap him back behind bars at the first opportunity, Jimmy faces an impossible dilemma: how can a man go straight when society won't let him, and when a relentless lawman is determined to see him fail?
