Gunsmoke #306, "Bruger's Folly,"
Marshal Matt Dillon calls Holly Dean into his office to deliver unsettling news: her ex-husband Sam Bruger has been paroled after serving three years for manslaughter in the shooting death of a man named Tracy Waters. Holly had refused to support Sam's alibi at his trial, and the whole town believed the killing was over her. Now remarried to the jealous gambler Jack Dean, Holly fears Sam has returned seeking revenge. When Sam arrives on the afternoon train, her current husband confronts him with threats, but Sam insists he came back for only one reason: to prove his innocence and discover why Holly lied on the witness stand.
The tension escalates when Holly later accuses Sam of threatening to kill her and illegally wearing a gun. Marshal Dillon finds himself caught between a paroled man claiming innocence, a beautiful woman with a reputation for causing trouble, and a volatile husband ready to protect what's his. As old wounds reopen and new conflicts emerge, the Marshal must navigate the dangerous triangle before someone else ends up dead.
