The Big Want

Dragnet #193, "The Big Want," finds Sergeant Joe Friday and Officer Frank Smith working the day watch out of Bunco-Fugitive Detail when they receive a call to pick up a burglary suspect named George Richmond, who's been using an alias and living at the Carlton Hotel. When they arrive at the hotel, the harried desk clerk informs them that Richmond checked out two days earlier, leaving no forwarding address. The detectives begin methodically tracing his movements, interviewing a cab driver who picked him up and tracking down his stops from that night.

Their investigation leads them to Margaret Norman, a woman who knows Richmond and has nothing good to say about him. She describes him as a cheapskate who took her to dinner once and then became violent and threatening when she told him to leave her apartment. Though she claims not to know his current whereabouts, her account paints a picture of a dangerous man who believes he owns people after minimal contact. Friday and Smith must continue their methodical police work to track down their fugitive suspect.
