By the time they arrive just four minutes after the call, the professional bandit has already escaped with his haul. At the scene, they encounter Mr. Allen, the flustered bank manager, and Gibson, the apologetic bank guard who had unwittingly let the armed robber into the bank just as it was closing at 3 PM. The suspect, wielding a sawed-off twelve-gauge shotgun, had ordered Gibson to surrender his weapon and forced his way inside.

As Friday and Smith begin their investigation, they learn the holdup was executed with precision by someone who clearly knew what he was doing.
