Unlocking Your Potential: How To Grow Yourself & Empower Others

Welcome to today’s episode of The Mindset Mentor Podcast where today we are going to dive deep into how you can help yourself grow, and simultaneously empower others around you to grow as well.

Here’s what I’ve gotta preface this episode with, because I get a lot of people approaching me and asking the same question around this… I find a lot of people when they first get into personal development and start working on themselves and experiencing transformation… a lot of people end up stressed out because they are trying to get others around them to want the same growth but more often than not it only ends up creating conflict in their relationships. 

If you have experienced this in your own life, I need you to first ask yourself this question, “Are you trying to get someone to change who they are, or are you allowing them the space to grow into who they are meant to be?”

The first 4 years of my wife and I dating, she wasn’t into personal development at all. I bought her books, I tried getting her to go to conferences, but it just wasn’t her thing. And then one day she just caught on and decided to taste what the pursuit of personal development was like.

What happened is when I stopped trying to force her to change into the person I wanted her to be, I focused on being the lighthouse instead. 

Your job for those around you is to nurture others and allow them to become who they want to become. 

Now turn the tables… ask yourself this: “How are the people around you nurturing an environment for you to grow in?”

If a flower doesn’t grow, you don’t change the flower. You change the environment. If you’ve been stuck for a while, maybe you should reassess your environment and determine if it’s actually conducive for you to grow in.

The Science Of Habit Formation: How To Build Lasting Habits

Habits help reduce the cognitive load of everyday tasks, which allows us to focus on the things we really need to put our efforts and our mind to. In this episode we’ll talk about both good, and bad habits, and how they affect our lives. 

As you go through this episode, you’re encouraged to think about both the habits that you want to have, and the habits that you have but need to break. 

The science behind habits says there are 3 habits behind how habit formation actually works:

1. Cue - This is the trigger that initiates the habit. These can be either external, or internal. Such as the time of day, an alarm on your phone, your environment, etc. Internal triggers could be your emotional reactions to certain situations, or behaviors of others. 

2. Routine - The routine is the actual habit itself. Ie: Caffeine with watching the sunrise, or a cigarette when you’re driving… 

3.  Reward - Every habit has some type of “reward” to it. Even the bad habits that you don’t want have a “reward” attached to it. Ie If your habit is to overeat, the “reward” is that your body will calm down your brain because it has to reserve it’s energy to try and digest the food.

Coaching thousands of people over the past 17 years, I’ve realized that people have a tendency to try and overhaul their entire life when they’re thinking of building habits. This is the quickest way to shoot yourself in the foot, so what I suggest is break down your habits into smaller and super specific habits. The lower the barrier to entry, the more likely you’ll be to do that habit.

Overcoming Procrastination: A Step-by-Step Guide To Taking Action

On today’s episode of The Mindset Mentor Podcast, we go through 6 steps to overcome procrastination. One of the main things that holds anyone back from achieving their goals is procrastination. It is literally the thief of your joy. 

But if you want to build the life that you want, you’re going have to figure out how to get past this bad habit. Whether you’re trying to lose weight, build a business, etc… and if you’re guilty of procrastination… then this is the episode you need to help you move forward. 

The first step in overcoming your procrastination is going to be understanding what it is, and why you do it. Then I’m also going to give you practical strategies that you can actually apply to your life right away to get started beating your procrastination, and upgrade your life.

Here’s the 6 steps to overcoming procrastination. 

1.  Recognize and acknowledge that procrastination is something that you do. 

This is tricky because it’ll mask itself in different ways such as, “I’m hungry”, “I need a nap”, etc. If you’re consistently finding yourself delaying tasks that are really important… there’s a pretty good change you’re procrastinating. 

2.  Understand your triggers.

For some, procrastination comes from an underlying cause. Ie: You’re afraid of failure, you’re afraid of being judged… and for some others you procrastinate because you have trained yourself to immediate gratification. No matter what your triggers are, you have to identify them so you can start to make a plan for what you can do the next time you’re triggered.

3. Start breaking down your tasks into smaller, more manageable parts. 

A lot of time procrastination attacks you, because your brain is thinking of too many things all at once causing paralysis by analysis. Breaking your tasks down into smaller “sub-tasks” will make things less daunting. 

4. Get better at your time management. 

Some techniques you can try are the Pomodoro Timer. They have physical timers you can purchase, but there’s actually a FREE version online that I personally use and everyone has access. You can also batch your tasks, by figuring out which tasks you have that you can accomplish in pairs. 

5. Set specific, and achievable goals. 

Instead of saying something like, “Work on the report”, you can say something like, “Write introduction to report by 10 am.” 

6. Reward yourself!

If your present self wants immediate procrastination… then how could you make that happen as soon as you accomplish something? Some examples would be getting to celebrate yourself with things that you love. Like a short break, cup of coffee, or anything else that feels like a treat and will bring you a small hit of dopamine. 

Everyone in the world has to face procrastination, but what I want you to know is that the secret to getting ahead in life is just getting started. Even if that’s just one step at a time.

How To Push Through When It's Hard

A huge part of the reason why accountability partners, and coaches can be so helpful for a lot of people is simply the fact that you are less likely to give up on something, when someone is watching and holding you responsible for what happens next. 

Giving up is the easy route. But here’s another question for you… Where would your life be if you were to stop giving up? 

In this episode I’m giving you 3 tips to push through that moment when you feel like pushing through is just too hard to keep going.

  1. Train yourself to work hard. Challenges become easier the moment you decide that you’re not going to let any barrier between you and your goal.

  2. Do what needs to be done, regardless of how you feel. Confidence is built when you show up for yourself without exception. 

  3. Have a “Why”. When your WHY is strong enough… your HOW will reveal itself. This will make it easier to push through giving up, because you’ll remember why you started. 

Too often people get so close to a major breakthrough, but give up right before they get there. I hope this episode meets you where you’re at, and helps you start building your dream life just one more day at a time.

How To Discover Your Authentic Self

On today’s episode of the Mindset Mentor Podcast, I’ll show you what it means to really go back into your authentic selfs state of being, and I’ll explain how to make sure you never have to let go of them again.  

What’s it mean to be your authentic self? It means that your thoughts, actions, and feelings align with who your true self. 

A lot of people I meet have this one common issue: they feel “stuck”. Stuck in position but their wheels are still spinning… and here’s what I’ve found. 

When you really dig down deep to the main culprit, I have found that most people start to feel “stuck” because they’re in a place in their life where they aren’t being fully authentic. 

They’re not being their true self in their relationships, their jobs, etc. Honestly in most cases they’re not being their true authentic self in most areas of that life. 

You might be thinking you know exactly who you are, but I’m here to tell you that you do know who you THINK you are. Once you go on this journey of self discovery you’ll realize that there are pieces of yourself that have been conditioned from external sources. 

If you want to experience the highest quality of life, then you’ve got to know who the hell you really are. Who you are behind your persona, your masks, what you’ve done to make sure you fit in, name, gender, religion, sexual preference, skin color, degree, etc…

There is a real authentic you deep down inside and this episode is to help you get started on your journey of true self actualization.

The Unspoken Key to Success

Welcome to today’s episode of The Mindset Mentor Podcast, where today we talk about one key to success that isn’t talked about AT ALL. 

No it’s not sexy. But it is important and I feel like after accomplishing what I have in the past 17 years, I’ve gained some type of qualification to share this with you. I feel confident that I’m leading you in the right direction with this one.. 

This unspoken key to success is… Patience. 

Here’s what I mean: too often we start anything. A goal, a business, a project of any kind, a relationship, etc… and when things aren’t moving along as quickly as you hoped from the beginning, people start to feel like that thing loses it’s purpose. People lose the drive because they set this expectation that leaves them feeling disappointed and hopeless. 

When I’m actuality they needed patience and to keep working on this specific thing, to grow and nurture it into what they dreamed for it. 

If I had stopped my podcast after just the first 5-10 episodes when barely anyone had even been listening…

Then you wouldn’t have it hear to listen to and grow with today. Literal MILLIONS of people would have potentially missed breakthrough opportunities in their life… makes me sick to even think about. That’s just ONE example of how patience pays off.
