What's the latest update on the Carolina Hurricanes free agency rumors?

During the Daily Checkdown, Paul Ihander & Chris Lea discuss the Mountain West claims San Diego State left the conference, owes an exit fee as sides remain at odds, Duke ranked second in ESPN's way too early top-25 men's basketball rankings, the NFL blames Super Bowl slippage on wrong shoes, and Victor Wembanyama set to make NBA Summer League debut against the Charlotte Hornets on Friday.

Also,  rumor has it the Carolina Hurricanes are looking to sign New York Rangers right winger Vladimir Tarasenko as part of the free agency period. A deal was supposedly in the works, but when Tarasemko hired a new agent, it reset the clock on any process. The Hurricanes continue to try and improve their roster and Dmitry Orlov may need to make the call to Tarasenko since they grew up together.
