Jordan Staal has re-signed with the Carolina Hurricanes, locking up the team’s captain for four more seasons. The deal is $11.6 million, with a $2.9 million annual salary cap. Staal, 34, has been with the Hurricanes since 2012 and has helped the team reach the playoffs in each of the past five seasons. Also, the Carolina Hurricanes could also be expecting the return of a former defenseman, Tony DeAngelo. The Philadelphia Flyers acquired DeAngelo last year for three draft picks. Former Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher signed the 27-year-old defenseman to a two-year $10 million contract. New GM Danny Briere is looking to clean house a trade is expected to happen for DeAngelo by the Hurricanes.
