Antti Raanta held the Bruins at bay for the first 36 minutes, then Carolina's offense took over in a 5-1 win to take Game 1 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series. Seth Jarvis broke the ice with 3 1/2 minutes left in the second period, His redirect of Jaccob Slavin's point drive found its way through Linus Ullmark staking the Hurricanes to a 1-0 lead. Nino Niederreiter made it 2-0 1:50 later and the Canes would score 3 more times in the third period. Raanta made 35 saves in his first career playoff start. His second should come on Wednesday at PNC Arena.
