Movie reviews and a little fun at both the listener and the hosts' expense.
In this Movie Show Digital Extra, Matt Whitaker, writer and director for the new drama from Angel Studios called Truth & Treason, joins Andy Farnsworth to talk about the movie and the long journey to getting this true story from the pages of history to the screen.
Whitaker's film tells the story of Helmuth Hubener, a 16-year old member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Germany during World War II who, along with two of his friends, started a resistance movement against Hitler and the Nazi regime--even though members of his own church congregation were Nazi supporters. Hubener's resistance, however, eventually forced him to pay the ultimate price for acting on his conscience.
Whitaker talks about trying to tell a truthful and accurate story, while also letting the audience decide how to feel about different characters and their choices. He also takes us behind-the-scenes of the casting process, the musical score, where people can watch even more of Hubener's tale than is contained in the film, and how surviving descendants of the people involved feel about this story, told more than 80 years later.
Truth & Treason which opened in theaters on Oct. 17th, stars Ewan Horrocks, Rupert Evans, Ferdinand McKay, Daf Thomas, Nye Occomore, Joanna Christie, Sean Mahon, and Sylvie Varcoe. Directed by Matt Whitaker.

In this Movie Show Digital Extra, Blair Treu, writer/director/producer for the new documentary film Sharing Aloha joins Andy Farnsworth to talk about the movie and the people involved in creating the magic of Hawaii’s #1 attraction, the Polynesian Cultural Center.
Treu's film tells the story of how Pacific Rim students come as strangers to the PCC and earn their living, as well as college scholarships, leaving school debt-free. They are the Life and Heart of the PCC and perform and host the 90,000 monthly visitors from around the world Treu describes this film as THEIR true story and culture that they learned from the feet of their ancestors. There are 8,000 students each semester that come as complete strangers and leave as one Ohana. This has continued for 60 years with no end in sight.
What makes this film different than many is that all proceeds from the movie directly fund additional scholarships for students gathered from around the Pacific Rim.
Sharing Aloha, in theaters starting Aug. 28th, features interviews with Malcom Timotea, Leilani Nicole Wilson, Jimmy Keen, and Atea Lee Chip Sao, among others. Directed by Blair Treu.
