Episode Description

Peter Shipman joins Casey Scott and Dr. Matt Woolley to tell his story of growing up with anxiety and how feeling normal after trying drugs and alcohol led him to hide in the shadows of addiction. Peter also opens up about how his parents’ separation impacted his relationship with his family throughout his addiction and being introduced to heroin after his first semester of college.

Then Peter shares when he was arrested for drugs the day before he was set to fly to New York after being accepted to NYU for graduate school, his experience with relapsing after trying to seek help for his addiction, and the guilt he feels after continuing to abuse substances throughout his career as a middle school teacher.

Lastly, Peter talks about the worst moments of his addiction that eventually led him to complete treatment.
