Crisis in the Classroom: Reading scores among American teens drop to near-record lows

American students are falling behind several Asian countries when it comes to reading literacy and comprehension. According to new data that just came out overnight, reading scores for American 15-year-olds have hit their lowest levels in 25 years. And before anyone starts saying it's because of the COVID pandemic, the research shows that this decrease started well before schools went into lockdown. The pandemic simply exacerbated a problem that was already there. What is driving this massive decline? There isn't one singular reason, nor is there one singular solution.
