Utah ski resorts bank on forecasted Super El Niño

Several ski resorts across Utah and the western U.S. are placing their bets on lots of snow this year. Many have already announced their first days of the upcoming season… and it's early. Greg has many years of experience as a member of a ski patrol and outlines what will happen to all those people who make early reservations… should the snow not fall.

Renovations changing long-term image of the White House

If you look at recent pictures of the White House, do you even recognize it anymore? Constant construction has the building looking trashy -- not something you'd generally associate with the leader of the free world. President Trump recently took journalists on a tour of the sites, including his new ballroom -- which has been paused by the courts -- and a new massive helipad. Greg and Holly have strong opinions about what the President is doing to the "people's house."

Fake polling becomes more of an issue in an AI-driven world

More and more people have developed a distrust of election polling over the last few decades, and fake polling certainly isn't helping. In fact, fake polling may be doing even more harm thanks to artificial intelligence. Greg and Holly discuss fake polling out of California and the dangers that could come to our electoral process should this deception continue unchecked.

Fights for religious freedom on display in Texas

There are a couple of interesting situations right now coming out of Texas… which deal with the concept of religious freedom. One has to do with a state law that requires a copy of the Ten Commandments to be displayed in every public school classroom. The other deals with foot-washing facilities for members of the Islamic faith in the Dallas-Fort Worth airport. The airport was going to install these kinds of wash basins, until the governor threatened to pull funding if they did. Greg and Holly have a lively discussion on the First Amendment and freedom of religion.

New data shows interesting trends in young adult marriages, even in places like Provo

Are wedding bells in the future for your young adult kids? If they live in Utah, there's a pretty good chance. Now if they're in Provo, they'll see the BEST chances in the country. Shocker, right? It's not too surprising, that's for sure. But it's interesting to see what's driving young adults around the country to either pursue -- or not pursue -- marriage. Brad Wilcox, Director of the Get Married Initiative at Institute for Family Studies joins Inside Sources to provide more insights.

FTC proposes rule to crack down on personalized pricing

Some potential good news for consumers! The FTC says that companies that secretly change prices of goods based on how much they think you'll pay for something could face some stiff federal charges. Some retailers have begun to use customers' private data to change the price of goods depending on the person. So some people may pay more for the same thing because the retailer thinks they would. Now, the Federal Trade Commission proposes a policy change that would add some severe penalties should retailers use this kind of pricing.

The national debt hits $ 40 trillion... what does that mean for the average American family?

The U.S. national debt hit a grim new high this year of $40 trillion, nearly double what it was just 10 years ago. This train is barreling down the tracks, and no one -- not Congress, not a Republican President, not a Democratic President -- seems willing to make it stop. $ 40 trillion is so much; it's hard to even fathom what that looks like. When it trickles down to the average American family, what does it mean? Dr. Michael Kofoed, associate professor of economics at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, joins Inside Sources with some insights.

Celebrating an icon of Utah culture: the humble Dutch oven

For hundreds of years, the cast-iron Dutch oven has played a huge role in our cooking traditions. And here in Utah, it holds a special place in our hearts. A recent in-depth piece in the Wall Street Journal highlights the family behind one of the biggest cast-iron Dutch oven makers in the US: the family behind the Lodge Company. And that got us thinking all about this rather plain piece of cookware and how much we love it here in Utah.

Allegations of theft and shady business practices went viral on social media, detailing claims of broken contracts for a popular Utah-based Lego reseller, Bricks and Minifigs. Now, there's been a settlement. The retailer has issued an "unqualified apology" to the Mansell family, admitting that their original contract was not properly administered. Senate Pres. Adams threatens to sue several critics for defamation

He lost his primary election, and he's headed out the door, but State Senate President Stuart Adams isn't leaving quietly. Now, he's threatening to sue several of his critics for defamation. Lawyers for Stuart Adams sent "cease and desist" letters to four of his critics, asking them to correct the record or face a lawsuit. Adams claims that comments made after his primary election loss by State Auditor Tina Cannon, Gabi Finlayson of Elevate Strategies, and two hosts of a conservative podcast were false and defamatory. But those critics aren't backing down.

Proposed ICE detention facility canned; Utah GOP support for Senator Curtis' migrant worker bill grows

It's official: the federal government is dropping its plans to convert a west side Salt Lake City warehouse into an ICE detention facility. Several local leaders have praised the cancellation, saying it never should have moved as far ahead as it did. But does that mean the feds are "done done" with plans to build an ICE detention facility here? Or could they just move it somewhere else? At the same time, a proposal from Senator John Curtis to give migrant workers an easier path towards citizenship appears to have a lot of opposition online, but recent polling of Utah Republicans finds a majority are on the same page with the Senator.

Go, Speed Racer! Majority of Utahns say speeding is okay

Yes, we know it's bad. But according to some new research, a majority of Utahns think speeding is okay. The Inside Sources hosts share their own thoughts on speeding, plus Holly's fun facts and Greg's closing arguments.

Neutrogena faces flak over claims of ending contract with Hayden Penettiere over postpartum depression

Neutrogena -- the skincare and beauty company -- is facing a lot of flak right now related to the recent death of actress Hayden Panettiere. The complaints aren't exactly related to her death, but the news of her passing has re-ignited a discussion about postpartum depression. Given our conversation yesterday on postpartum mental health care, it felt fitting to talk about this today. Greg and Holly break down the situation and give their takes on why they think Neutrogena might be in the wrong.

Prosecution submits another filing asking judge to move ahead with Tyler Robinson's murder trial

We're still waiting for an official notice as to whether or not Tyler Robinson will go to trial. The man accused of shooting and killing Charlie Kirk at UVU is waiting for the judge to make his decision, which is expected to happen after a final hearing on September 1st. In the meantime, the prosecution continues to push for the judge to send the case to trial with 'aggravating' elements attached to the charges. The defense says those 'aggravating' things are not applicable here. And now, the prosecution has submitted another filing defending their 'aggravated' claims. What a mess!

Poll: Majority of Utahns disapprove of Pres. Trump's order shrinking size of monuments, still value local control over public lands

The fallout from President Trump's recent executive order slashing the size of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante National Monuments continues. Now, we're getting a better idea of how Utahns feel about the move. But what's really interesting is this kind of juxtaposition we saw in the polling results. According to polling from the Deseret News and Hinckley Institute of Politics, a majority of Utahns oppose shrinking the monuments. But at the same time, a wide majority of Utahns support putting public lands in the hands of local governments. Greg and Holly break it all down.

Back-to-School: DEA issues fentanyl warning for parents

A new school year generally comes with a slew of warnings for parents -- things you need to be aware of as your kids leave the house. One warning out for this new year deals with fentanyl. Officials with the Drug Enforcement Administration say if your kid has access to a cell phone, they have access to a drug dealer. Yikes! In this segment, Greg and Holly learn about the warning signs of possible drug activity with kids, along with the ways parents can best help their kids keep away from harmful substances like drugs and alcohol.

Early morning fire sparks at mouth of Weber Canyon

It was quite the sight to see early this morning -- bright orange flames burning amid the darkness of the mountainside near the mouth of Weber Canyon. Dubbed the Dugway Fire, it caused a lot of concern this morning. Parts of U.S. 89 were closed and some structures were threatened, but no evacuations were put into place. KSL NewsRadio's Adam Small ran to the scene as soon as the fire started and has been tracking developments; he joins Inside Sources with an update.
