Trusting God Through Closed Doors with Erik Nieder

Sometimes God’s direction makes the most sense when you’re looking backward.

For Erik Nieder, baseball was a huge part of his plan. He was a left-handed pitcher with college opportunities ahead of him until an injury changed all of that. What felt like a closed door at the time became one of the ways God redirected Erik toward a life of leading worship, writing songs, and sharing the truth of Scripture through music.

Erik talks to Jonathan about learning to worship Jesus in every part of life, seeing God’s kindness in unexpected changes and what years of following Jesus have taught him about trusting where God leads.

He also shares the deeply personal story behind his song “Praise You All the Same,” written during his daughter’s surgeries and treatment for club feet. Inspired by Job 1:21, the song became a prayer for his family: God, whether You heal her the way we’re asking or not, we’re still going to trust You.

Today, Erik’s daughter is running, dancing, and thriving and the prayer that began privately in their family is now reaching people who need that same reminder: God is still worthy of our trust and our praise, even when we don’t know how the story will turn out.
